on my 80 4x4 with a 4in lift & 4:38 gears on 30x9.50x15 BFGs I was getting 16 to 21 MPG when I changed to 33x12.50x15 BFGs my MPG went down to 16 and I lost 10 MPH on the top end. I just went down to a new set of 31x10.50x15 Cooper STT Discovery's and got my top end back while the MPG is much better again I haven't run a full tank of fuel yet to check it

With taller tires and stock gears, both the speedo and odo will off. Did you take that into account when calculating you mpg?

16 to 18 is GOOD range

running 33" + with stack gearing WILL cut mileage !-- if you are going to go to 33+, you will need to go to 5:29 (on my 86 i am running 36" with 4:10---- but stay in 4th 75mph at 2300rmp---- 15 mpg------- but it is buuilt as a off-road truck

Calculating the odometer offset, I get about 19mpg. With 33" tires, my odo reads 8.5 miles on a highway stretch of 10 miles. 15% low. 62mph on the cluster is actually 75mph on my gps.

Well my 85 gets better that 18 then, given the tires are 31 " and 10.5 wide...true width. Ill have to figure it out again once I put tags back on it this winter. Great information guys ! I would think as it gets better brok in it will be better too (motor was rebuilt less that 2000 miles ago )

think I got some mpg back.....I droped 2 mpg on my 93 v6 4x4 after new timing belt all the pullies and tentioners and water pump...I was pissed for sure ! But now I lost the cat and have a new muffler and Im at 18.62 in mixed driving with the a/c on so Im getting happy again as this is the best city mpg Ive ever gotten. Did lose some bottom end torque though, and gained on the top end....riather have the torque though so the cat may go back in

SlowOne Dont forget to adjust for those 31 inch tires, add 10% to your miles then devide by 17.5 abd see how much better your mpg actually is !
