When ever I have to use my headlights on my MR2, I have to manual make them pop-up by turning these knobs behind the lights. I want to get it to where I do not need to do that, but don't know where to start looking. Are the pop-up headlights on the MR2s vacuum powered? Any help is appreciated. Thanks!

They're raised by little electric motors. Do the following:

1. Test ALL fuses and fusible-links. Don't just look at them, pull them out and test resistance between the legs with voltmeter. If all fuses and fusible-links OK...

2. Get wiring diagram
3. Figure out wiring & colors to headlight motors.
4. Disconnect wiring-connector from headlight-motors and probe with voltmeter.
5. Turn ON headlight switch, do you have power to headlight-motor connector?

If YES, then motors may be seized or burned out. Replace motors if you don't want to repair them.

If NO, you don't have power @ headlight-motor connector, this may be issue with motor-relays or light switch upstream. Go up wiring harness and test upstream components.

Here's a photo of the headlight-motor. The knob you've been turning is at the end of the motor, so you've been manually spinning the motor by hand.

The electrical connector has power and a position-switch that tells the relay when the headlights are up or down and to turn off power. The wiring-diagram will tell you which wire should have power when headlights are moving. Sometimes the position-switch breaks and you have headlights that go up and down continuously !!! :)
