Nah. Highly unlikely. In your dreams. That's what the folks at Toyota said as I handed the keys to the MR-S V-Edition back to them earlier this year and asked if Toyota had another mid-engined sports car on the drawing board.
So what, pray tell, is this litle number spotted on the back of a Toyota transporter near Nagoya earlier this summer? Toyota is keeping mum, but could this be another prototype from the Committee to create Interesting Cars? Let's hope so.

The "Committee to create Interesting Cars" is very fresh and cannot have produced a prototyp car. A prototype car, especially if it is a sports car could take up to three years of engineering. Even when they would use the old MR-S platform the time between the creation of the committe and a actual prototype is way to short. Just look at the IS-F and LF-A. Dig back to the time the first LF-A prototype was released until the time the LF-A will be available at your dealer (assumption: Q1 2009). And then add at least two years of time before the first appearance of the LF-A on a show to the time.
Any results from that committee would not be visible before end of 2009 when they really want to do something fast (by using existing engines/platforms).

toyota and the parent company of subaru fuji heavy industries are considering collaborating on a sports car according to the presumably super-dry japanese newspaper asahi currently toyota is without one following the demise in 2005 of the mr2 spyder and subaru has never built a dedicated sports car (sit down guys the xt and the svx weren't sports cars) it is not knowen if the two-seater will be mid- or front-engined , but the target cost is apparently is in the mid-teens and power will come from a version of subaru's familiar flat-four engine don't put a for sail sign on your car puite yet as this sporting two-compaany compromise probably woun't arrive until 2011 at the earliest --car and driver nov 07:whatwhat:

your talking about the Toyota Roux (sp)
which is going to be a small rear wheel drive coupe, and Reports say we might see it late 2009 :naughty: so keep your eyes open, several fo the toyota comunity are expecting to hear some news on it at Sema this year, so lets hope Toyota comes through for us

While this is true, do you think the comittee could've only been annouced lately and have existed this whole entire time? Or this prototype isn't exactly new?

toyota is well know since the "general automotive industry and media conference" in the 80's to be the only company to claim full process of idea to paper to prototype to production times of 3 months.
this claim was balked at by gem and ford
they then proved this with their release of the 85+ corolla hatchback (i think)
GM had egg on their faces again when they released the 86 corolla as the nova
adn after about 1-2 years were sued by the US gov't and the "minimum production value" was set in place.
this law regulated how much work needed to be done to a vehicle before it would be "accepted" as "american made"
this was due to GM having the 86's shipeed to them with less tha 2 man hours of work req'd to roll off their lines...

the damn things still had japanese stickers in the engine bay's

All I know is that Toyota needs to get a sports car back on the market. This is a big hole they need to fill in there lineup!!!!!!
