Hey guys  I have a ‘06 Avalon XLS and would like to upgrade my bulky factory key/remote to the cooler ones as equipped for the ‘07 models :D As you might have noticed, Toyota has redesigned the keys/remotes for most (if not all) of its models including the Avalon; where both key and remote are integrated into one single device. This is similar in design for late models Lexus, Honda, and Acura… etc. Anyway, has any 2005 and 06 Avalon owners done this upgrade? I have already searched but have not found any thread mentioning such. As always, any feedbacks are appreciated :)

Pics for reference:

Key/remote as equipped for ’05 & ‘06 Avalons : (except the keyless ignition equipped Limited)

This is news to me. I just bought an '07 Avalon and it has the separate remote as shown in your picture above for 2006.
Looks like u bought an early production of the '07 model? I saw this new key/remote on a '07 Avalon for the very first time back in Nov. I think ths is why all car brochures have disclaimer saying something like "we reserve the right to change equipment spec without notice":

Trust me, the novelty of having a switchblade wears out quickly. I can see that this particular one u posted in your link is a copycat of an older version of the VW/Audi switchblade, which is known to have the key ring detached (broke off) from the device. It's also too big and bulky to carry it in your pocket. FYI, There is an updated version of the VW/Audi key that's not only looks better, but with a sturdier design of hte keyring holder. In my opinion, I would prefer the key shaped key/remote over switchblade key/remote ;)

that picture of what you say is the 2007 remote looks exactly like the one my niece has for her 97 camry, which was a dealer installed option. the remotes have some numbers on the back. as long as the fed id number and the other number are the same as your 06...there should be no reason you can't program it for your 2006, however be sure it also contains the proper transponder or it wont start the car.
