Good morning.
My alternator keeps shorting resulting in a low charge.
I've been changing regular, but it gets burned out every time.
What could be the problem?
It is for a 1992 lj78 2lte engine

We need more info.
What is "shorting out" , rectifier, stator, diodes ?
What condition is the battery in?
What changed since the last time it worked correctly?

Okay.
So the diodes and regulator keeps burning up after a few seconds after starting the engine.
When that happens the vehicle is having low charge about 12.29v and below.
The battery is okay though it's getting drained because of the low charging.
So I don't know if the problem is in the alternator or the wiring of the vehicle.

So what changed the last time it worked correctly...
One of the brushes had an abnormal wear causing the spring to come into contact with the shaft. Causing some electrical smoke between the shaft and the brush holder.
I got a new brush holder and cleaned the dirt and changed the diode plate... It worked fine for a month then the problem of low charge started a few weeks ago.
I've changed about 3 diode plates and 2 regulators. I think it is also affecting the brake booster pump

Direct short if it's eating didoes that fast.
Have you charged the battery separate from the car?
Bad plate in the battery can cause a cascade affect thru the alternator.

Thank you for your replies.
Yes I've charged it separately.
Ill get the battery checked, but again we tried with a different battery but it did the same.

Didn't see that you tried a different battery.
Looks like your gonna have to start checking the wiring.
