I would just like to share my experience with Markville Toyota. I am not trying to badname Markville or be disrespectful. What I am sharing are simply facts.

I purchased a 2007 certified Camry last year from this dealership. I paid extra to rust proof the car. The car was "pre-inspected" prior to its delivery. The car was showcased in the showroom, and I was told not to worry about anything as the car is in excellent condition and everything will be pre-inspected by its mechanics to ensure everything was okay. I was also told that it had 1 year Toyota warranty on it so if issues came up, I would have peace of mind.

Within a year, I have been quoted repairs well over $2000 for various issues as the car has been giving so much trouble.

1) Water pump gone (in 2 months...covered under warranty) - no problem

Few months later

2) The car started vibrating when driving....I took it to Markville and they said "3 out of 4 tires were out of shape" and was told that the car was sold because it met the minimum level of safety required. This was not disclosed to me when the pre-inspection was done and was in fact told car was in excellent shape. I question how can they sell a car that doesn't even have round tires, which is an issue of safety.

(3) Before delivery; I was told to go for rust proofing that costs me around $ 800 to 1000. I did rust proofing but now I was told that there is a rust at brakes. I was told that it will cost me $ 1400 now to fix every thing...after just 8 to 9 months only..this much cost.? what about quality of car and service/inspection before delivery or after first service?

4) Since last few weeks I am hearing another noise and have been told that the fuel tank has corrorded and have been given an estimate of over $350.

So within a year, I have had issues worth well over $2000, which I have had to pay for.

I contacted the sales man and his response was "Its been less than a year, but I made the trip to US (NYC) so I have driven a lot....do I expect a car that is good for life". I emailed the used Toyotoa GM at Markville and have not received any response. In fact, the salesman was so unprofessional with his response and said that they don't have anything that they can do. The mechanic shop says its an issue of the salesman and they can't do anything about it. No one has taken any responsibility and I am left with making trips to Markville and paying for repairs. I do not expect Markville to sell me a car that will be good for lifetime, but I do expect them to be transparent about issues and/or be responsible for it. A car with so many issues within one year, is not what I expected from Markville. I understand issues come up all the time in Cars and they can go wrong anytime unexpectedly, but Markville has not shown any care, or taken responsibility for the actions, and tell me things like "do I expect a car from them to last me a lifetime".

I wish Markville Toyota all the best and I am simply sharing my experience. I am not trying to discourage any potential customers or clients but simply sharing how issues with my car has raised and the response I have received from Markville. I would definitely not purchase a car from Markville again.

Thanks

Here to help

Thanks for posting. I wish you would have sent an email as I would have been able to intervene sooner. Either way, my name is Robert Karbaum and I am the E-Commerce Manager for Weins Canada Inc. (which Markville Toyota Scion is a part of.

I am more than happy to take on your situation so please feel free to contact me here, PM me, send me an email at [email protected], or call me at 416-798-9753.

A few things to address before we speak again.

1) Warranty, glad it was solved.
2) All vehicles have a standard safety inspection with the Ministry of Transportation Ontario to receive a Safety Standard Certificate. If must meet their 100+ point inspection or it can't legally be sold. This means, at the time of sale these tires meet MTO safety requirements.

On the other hand, claiming the vehicle is in "excellent shape" probably wasn't the best choice of words.

3) Rust proofing is not used on brakes. It it was, the brakes would not function properly causing much bigger problems.

This is another item within the MTO Safety Standard Certificate. It it didn't pass, it wouldn't have been legal to sell.

In any event, I would like to assist you in any way that I can. Please contact me so we can discuss further.

Hi Robert,

Thanks for your reply. I am not sure how you might be able to help, but do let me know what my options would be.

I understand all the legal requirements and certification points. That's fine. My issue is that why wouldn't the issues be disclosed to me? If they were, then I would have decided to go with a different car and not this one.

The fact of the matter is within a year, all these problems have came up. It gives me the impression that the Pre-inspection is pointless, and I cannot trust the dealer or the mechanics at the shop. If this is the way they want to do business, thats fine, and I have learned my lesson to not do business with Markville Toyota or even Toyota may be in future.

None of the issues that have occurred in the car have happened instantly or within a year. Wheels, rusting of breaks, fuel tank corrosion - has to have started much much sooner, but this wasn't disclosed to me.

To me, I trusted the dealership and its staff and toyota's pre-inspection to either catch - or honestly notify me and at least be transparent about the issues, but I was wrong. Not only that, they failed to take ownership or any responsibility for the issue which is worse.

I am not sure what can be done in this issue, I don't expect the dealership to be helpful nor do I think there are any regulations in this matter that protect the consumers. I just posted my experience to raise the awareness and share my experiences

Hi Robert,
I sympathize with your situation. I do. Less than 2 years ago I purchased a house with a home inspection. Within that inspection my roof was deemed "in good repair". Last weekend I noticed my eavestrough was falling down. Upon inspection I found a hole in my roof, that was leaking in enough water to rot the wood to the point where the nails holing the eavestrough were falling out.

The inspection included pictures of the roof, and gave no indication that something could go wrong. However, at the end of the day I am now faced with fixing my roof at the cost of several thousand dollars.

I don't want to discount your opinions, but my point of this story is that in every facet of life something can go from fine, to bad very quickly. In your specific case, unless you thoroughly went over all 100+ points of the inspection before purchase, there will be things that occur that you were not expecting. Unfortunately in your case, sooner than later in 2 areas.

If a vehicle passes a MTO Standard Safety Inspection, then it is legal to sell. From your comments it would appear that you would be more concerned with the overall MTO Safety Inspection Process, than our dealership. A certificate either has a pass, or a fail. There is no 70% pass, 80%, 90% etc. This means, a salesperson cannot tell you accurately what the vehicle is expected to do in 9 weeks, 9 months, or 9 years. That is, unless you were knowledgeable yourself and re-checked the 100+ point inspection before purchase.

So it wasn't that we "did not disclose" information to you, we stated what we knew; and that the vehicle was legally certified.

Now, most importantly with all of that said I am not entirely sure what your options will be. I will have to speak to Markville and get back to you. To expedite this process, please contact me with your details so I can look specifically into this matter and get back to you as soon as possible.
