I blew my motor in my 93 camry DLX. how much would a used motor cost and how hard is it to do myself. Also if i wanted to swap a MR2 motor in it how much is that. Also in ohio so if i have the swap done where is a good shop to go to.
thanks

A good engine will probably cost you around 2 grand but shop around. As to a self install, it would help if you have access to an engine puller, but as long as you have a hanes manual or engine experience, you can probably do it. If it is the same engine it is plug and play.

Someone elsi will have to talk about the mr2 swap.
i saw a motor for sale today off of junkyard dog for 750 with 60,000 miles or should i do the MR2 swap since i already have the car apart and the motor blown
Well by the sound of it, i would get that engine and just do the 3sgt head swap which will get you on the road to a turbo. IMO
Is there any where on here i can read that or do i just type in 3sgt swap
just look up in the how to turbo stick. All the info you will ever need.
Get the engine you found and do the 3sgt head swap like toyotacamry1 said. Or just take that engine and have the car like you had it before.
motor swap here i come
just do the 5sfe swap and keep it simple

chances are your rods won't be able to take the power that you're planning for the 3sge swap
Yea i am doing the 5sfe swap and getting shot block to build so i will have the car running in no time and then just out my other motor together when i get time
all i can say is search. there are a lot of issues that you need to research.

if you just keep it simple with the 5sfe swap, do yourself a favor and stick with a 92-93 camry 5sfe, so the wiring will be the same.
well with the extra money you save, you could take the block and get forged pistons and rods installed with a new ferrea valvetrain and metal headgasket and you would be ready to bolt on a turbo.

Engine 800.00
Headgasket 80.00
Pistons and rings 599.00
Rods 709.00
Valve train 550.00

Total: 2738.00

Not bad considering that is what you would pay for a shop to install a new engine. Plus you are pretty much ready for boost.

See if the junkyard will let you take a 3sgt head for the same price if you leave the 5sfe.

^ Its a lot more involved than that man, he needs to stick with a 5sfe... Or he could try a 1mz-fe swap for some extra power, thats not too bad.

  I´m sorry, but you make it sound so easy. It´s not. There is a lot more involved. Search topics reffering to the 5sgte written by Wraith. He is doing one. But don´t pm him because most likely he will not respond.
Don't get me wrong, i am not saying that the install will be easy. I am mearly pointing out that with the money he saves, he could buy these components to build his engine. I am assuming alot about his capability to build his own engine to save money, but if he got these parts, he could slowly build his engine over the course of a couple months to save money. And i know i am probably missing several components of the build but i was just throwing out a ballpark figure. Probably best to just drop in the 5sfe and build it up as he goes.
^ have you bought these components or installed any of them?
actually i have yes. I have bought ferrea springs and valves and pistons. I havn't installed them yet because I need to drive my car, so i am waithing for a problem so i can have reason to install them. But other than that, whats your point?
He needs to get the car running, its a cool idea but not one you can do quickly :)
Yes i have picked up a short block just to put the pistons and rods in and have that block for later when i fell the time is right. But for know i just need my car to run so i can get from A to B. Also what companines make valve trains and cams for the 5sfe head
