I justed installed a Greddy Type-S Blow off Valve and sometimes my idle bounces from 1000rpm to 800rpm up and down? I check for a vacuum leak nothing. I adjusted the b.o.v. still does it sometimes? I made sure everything was installed properly still does it? Did I install something wrong or forgot to installed something? Theres only one hose that connects to the greddy b.o.v. if your letting it blow off into the atmosphere. But other then that it sounds so clean. Please help

I've heard that venting to atmosphere will give you idle issues. On the other hand, my bro had a similar problem with his car a 1st gen eclipse (idle surge), it ended up being a stuck idle positioning sensor. I'm not sure what kind of system the MR2's have, but basically the computer adjusts this sensor to adjust your idle, if it gets stuck, the computer goes haywire and the idle starts to bounce.. in his car is was from 800 to 1500. Hope this helps

Lachean, thanks for posting that link.

A huge percentage of MR2s that have general running condition & idle problems problems come from poor ignitions or aftermarket BOVS.

The best valve, for performance, you can have on your MR2 is the OEM BPV. Everything else just makes noise and causes problems: idle, running rich, poor fuel economy, etc ...

Thanks for all your input

I'm new to my mr2 turbo..what is a afm,vpc and ems? I love the noise and I bought it for only for that reason..I'll end up taking it off when I go performance and put back the stock one..Do bov for mr2 cause any damage to the engine? When I route the bov back to the intake no idle problems..but I'm having too much fun with the noise right now!..

HKS EIDS

I was searching on the web and I came across an electronic component that will correct idling problems for aftermarket mr2 blow off valves. HKS has E.I.D.S.(electronic idling stabillzer) Does anyone have this electronic component installed on the their mr2 turbo? I'm going to my local shop to ask about it and if its recommended I will buy it asap.

afm is "air flow meter"....vpc is "vein pressure converter"- its a device to allow u to control/tune fuel...ems is acronym for standalone engine management....

i never had any idle problems with my type s...but then again..i'm using a vpc n dont have my afm anymore....

They say the HKS bov is the best application for an MR2 turbo and won't give you any idle problems..Is it true?..
One of the HKS valves copied the OEM air design, so it responds as fast as the OEM unit; however, it does not have the by-pass feature the OEM has.

The best valve for peformance for the MR2, is the OEM valve.

this has always puzzled me....how come then everyone else in the world uses BOVs....all the top tuners...top import racers??...
Because they sound cool and they can get away with it.

Why?

People who are dedicated drag racers are not as hindered by the BOV as "normal people".
They race at one PSI and they shift at WOT on all shifts, so they will not necessarily see the ill affects of the BOV.
In fact, a good drag racer barely "blows off" at all.

The fact is the 99% of BOVs out there are based on a spring design. That being said, they will have a limited range of "proper operation" based on spring tension.
You can not run too much boost on the OEM valve. It will never leak (unless it is broken).

Springs will also never respond as fast as air can.

There is only one way that the OEM valve could possibly need to be upgraded ... and that is if yo uwere running a HUGE amount of boost and a HUGE amount of volumn .... and the sheer quantity was great than what the OEM could evacuate.

How mcuh is that? .... a lot. I doubt anyone would ever see it.

DiddyNZ, the VOC is not sold anymore.. you can only get it used. They run from $550-$700 on the used market.

The AFM is not that bad of arestirciton, many people are making well over 300 rwhp with the AFM in place.

The VPC adds ZERO performance beyond eliminating the AFM ... so whatever you can get out of that air flow.

oo wow that sucks, im a little strap for cash and i would like a pssshhh sound but getting a new ecu is a bit out of the question, does just mr2s have afms? or do lots of others have it?
if u want the pshhh sound....just get any aftermarket BOV and vent it to the atmosphere....u dont need a new ecu.......

I'm switching to the HKS BOV..Expensive switch but I did research on it, and it is one of the best bov for an mr2 turbo application from what I read and heard.
The HKS is the best aftermarket valve for the MR2.
The OEM BPV is the best performing valve for the MR2.

i respect your opinions on MR2 performance and what works and what doesn't ... you don't seem to be as pompous as others on the www.mr2oc.com board.

anyway, i remember a thread that suggested the stock ECU is less than optimal for tuning and efficiency, even with the VPC in place, aren't you still relying on the stock ECU for overall fuel and timing?

and do you think that it would be worthwhile losing the stock ECU in favor of aftermarket ware even if your power goals are not stratospheric?
