I just purchased a 2005 Toyota Echo Hatch back today!!! I'll probbly be getting it in the next few days. There are modifications that you can do to the car. The car initially has almos the same torque as a Honda SI...why is everyone bashing this little beast. I am having a bunch of extras installed onto my car. Like a stainless steel Borla Cat back exhaust, as well as TRD suspension, and a AEM air intake. The mechanic doing the work said that this will probably push the HP to up over 125!! That's a lot for such a little car. Pics to come

People bash it because 125hp is 65hp less than a 12 year old Camry(stock). It's running near nothing. And Civic Si's run a lot more than that. Along with having V-tech engines.

Goldsounds-

Congrats on your new car. I love the way the Echo Hatchback looks. I wish they sold them here in the states. They are pretty peppy and I think you will be pleases especially with the mods you are doing.

YA but a camry is like is twice as heavy, ya gotta think of the power to weight when talking about an echo, the things are tiny.....

Well there are a million things you would have to weigh in. That was just a basic comparison.

If you look at it, the Camry is geared better than the Echo. There are tons of factors.

The borla exhaust has a huge hum depending on what rpm you ride in...fyi

but the intake and exhaust really add alot of pickup to it compared to stock.

The Echo hb must be pretty functional. The Echo me and my gf just picked up is pretty peppy, good pickup though it seems to run out of head room.

Hey Goldsounds.. just wondering how much was the TRD suspension option? and what does it include? thanks... btw.. I'm thinking of getting an Echo 3dr too.

new hatch

I just got a '04 hatch - RS. :D
Did the dealer say anything about how much torque would increase (that has more effect that HP on acceleration). Also what the hit on gas mileage - the reason I bought the car was for the mileage, but if the hit wasn't too bad...;)
I would be interested in anyone who has added rear speakers, as the sound sucks. I am thinking 6x9 enclosures on the rear deck...but a pod for a sub would be cool - haven't found any yet though and don't know how to custom my own.
In terms of stock acceleration...the first problem is the tires - way too much wheel spin for a good lauch and scary bad if it is even a little wet.

other than that - so far a very fun car for the money.

I'm giving the car a wash a little later then I'll take some photos and post them. This car has some POWER! wow. Was I ever surprised. The Borla sounds sweet too. There is next to NO HIGHWAY NOISE from that exhaust. It can't even be heard. But when the car is revving down low it gives that sweet throaty sound. Not hard to spin those little tires..that's for sure.

thanks for the look see, roaddog. Was it dealer installed or did you DIY. I couldn't quite see if there was a cold air box, or is the intake just at the leading edge of the hood?
As you can see from goldsounds latest post, the intake exhaust goes great - did you notice a hit at the pump...asking you as goldsound just got his and it took me over 2 weeks to need gas.
keep the shiny side up:D

Thanks, but I've already had a visit from them. About a week after I got the car I got a nice ticket to match it. 96 km/h in a 70 km/h zone. I'll get a profile shot in there soon too so you can see the lowering springs in action.
