Okay, so it hardly ever rains in Hawaii. Today I was running away from it all day.

I have a URD TCAI and decided it would be a great idea to go "urban offroading", as I like to call it, with my friends. We went all over the island and my truck was covered with mud, and green waste. Thats just from dirt roads (muddy) and roadside puddles (brown water).

Well, it was raining so hard that my truck was bogging and running terrible. The intake was so soaked that it was having a hard time sucking in air. My gas mileage went to hell and I had to drive like a granny!

Do I have anything to worry about? Gonna wait till the intake is dry and then take it out for a spin.

Umm, yeah. That can be very dangerous. Sucking too much water in your engine can hydrolock it and then you are screwed. Get a K&N Drycharger and it will help.

Yup. You need a Drycharger.

I can spray high pressure water directly on my DryCharger/filter while the engine is running, and it doesn't affect the engine at all.

I had that happen to my dirt bike (hydrolock). Its major stuff. I wasn't submerged in water or anything, just driving in constant rain.

Thanks for the tips and info.

What size drycharger will i need? and should I change the filter as well?

A K&N Drycharger is pretty much a must with the URD CAI otherwise you wont be able to drive in the rain without sucking in water. Lots of water in an engine is very VERY bad.

That sucks. I'm all worried now. should i be?
If you trucks starts up and runs fine when it drys out, nope. If not, definitely yes. But a little water isn't going to kill your engine, keep in mind rally cars and race cars in general inject that stuff right into their engines. albeit they're designed to and the water is completely atomized before going into the engine.

You may not need to, but when I swamped Dodge, and every time my quad goes under, I pull the plugs and turn the motor over. The compression will shoot most of the water out of the cylinders. Whatever is left over should dry or burn up. You should be good.

I love going through puddles around town. After I'm done, the engine bay is pretty wet, including all around my intake (K&N w/ AEM dry filter & dry charger). The dry charger only helps keep the water out, it's not waterproof (of course). Water and dirt still get through. I suggest picking up a similar type intake such as volant or trd if you're gonna continue mudding and puddle hunting.
URD intake just seems over exposed to the elements, especially if you're crawling around in dirt and water.
Or, you can try the dry charger and see. I would still keep an eye on it:thumbup:
I feel pretty safe knowing my intake is inside when I go mudding.
