Im currently fixing up a 1990 celica gts as my first project car. I have the engine ripped out and im replacing the head gasket, water pump, timing belt, clutch, radiator, and brake lines.

I was wondering if there is anything else i should replace while the engine is out and more accessible. Im trying to make this car last me as long as possible.

Why not do a total block rebuild while it's out? Hone, new rings, decked, new main and rod bearings, front and rear seals. Especially if you want it to last.
A valve grind and new valve seals would be good too.

^^ on what MR2Jedi says. If the body is in great shape, the GT-S is a nice car, and you have most of the labor already put into it by getting the engine out and needing to reinstall it, so consider doing a full rebuild. You won't have to worry about the mechanicals of that engine then for a very, very long time.

I can tell you from personal experience when I redid my 96 Camry, repainted, changed all new mouldings and emblems, my friend helped me and we also did the engine even though it really didn't need it, but it had over a 150k on it and we got all the parts rings, seals, hoses, etc, the whole 9 yards. So, if are asking, since the engine is out, I'd say do a rebuild. After all, its a project car.

Heres some pics of when i first got it. Paint isnt too bad, but i found out the pervious owner had cut some brakelines and spill some fluid on the car and it fucked up the paint a bit there. And one the owners painted over the black trim on the hood which looks pretty bad.

thanks for all the advice. Hopefully my father will continue to let me store it in his garage. But he has been complaining that he wants to park in the garage during winter and so far my project is taking up 2/3 spots.

Also does anyone know a place that sells pre bent metal brake lines or will i have to go to a toyota dealership?

Didnt see anything at rockauto or autoanything. Father also said he didnt find anything online either

No, but you can always buy a tubing bender and do it yourself.

Each geographical area will have different places that you can check. But I can tell you, that most shops that I deal with will generally always use a Dealer only because of those bends. They can be tricky. My advice is to price around and see if it is worth it to you. Remember, if you don't bend the line correct, it will mess it up.

Been slacking on getting the engine back together and in the car and so far the latest progress has been lots of cleaning, putting the transmission back on and the water pump. Hopefully tonight ill get the last bolt out of the waterpump that snapped and rethread it.

Since discovering lots of rust under the carpet my dad decided to have it parted out. The worst thing is i never even got to drive the car.

O well at least this gave me a lot of experience.
