I just got finished installing an aftermarket shift knob with an overdrive button on it on my gen 3.5 camry. The overdrive works fine, it's just after trying to shift the car into drive it won't come out of park!! What is the problem? I hope there is an easy fix.

no, it's neither. I'm not exactly sure what it is. but if you are talking about the white cap the the factory shift knob kits on top that is not it. I'm talkind about the white plastic gears at the bottom of the assembly. When I push the button in on the new shift knob it moves the white gears but it doesn't come out of park, can you help me?..........and yes I turned it on.??

OK, I got it working. The reason it would not shift is because after I took the white factory cap the thing silverstreak was talking about, I put on the metal cap that came with the aftermarket shift knob. The problem was right there, the cap didn't allow enough passage for the shift to push all of the way down. But now I got it fixed except I noticed I must have pulled something because when I'm in reverse it isn't lit up amd when I'm in neutral it lights up reverse and so on. Should be an easy fix. Thanks to all, silverstreak I appreciate the help.

Good to hear. You're lucky I'm bored at work... :)

As for the wrong lights lighting up, your neutral safety switch is most likely misaligned. Do a search on 'reverse lights' and my name and you'll find some info on this in the Camry forum. It's best to learn how to realign your switch from a Haynes manual, as they have nice detailed pics in there.

Not sure how changing a shifter would've misaligned the switch though....
