Engine is burning a lot of oil, and have decided to replace the valve seals in my 2002 celica gt. I have removed the valve cover, but am a bit lost of where to go next. Any help is appreciated. Also, which is the #1 cylinder? Thanks!

compression is good, no problems with the operation of the engine or acceleration. although when driving approx 75mph for around 50 miles it uses up almost a quart of oil.

Have you checked for leaks?
The head will have to be removed to replace valve seals.

I would do a compression test before deciding it was the valve seals.
Cylinder #1 is the one closest to the timing cover.
