I just don't understand how finding the exact Toyota part number can be so confusing.

What I need is a seal for my 2005 Camry SE V6 (aka Seal Type T with members of TN's help in the past) that is between the front driver side axle and the transmission (see pictures).

I've checked various Toyota dealers' websites and they don't all agree on either what the part is and what vehicle it fits. Eventually I went to my nearest Toyota dealer and was provided with part number 41336-06060. Went back to my car and typed in the part number on a random Toyota dealer site on my phone and the result is Dust Cover. Went back into the parts department and spoke to the same guy to confirm and he was adamant that that is the part I'm looking for which I doubt.

As an example, for part number 41336-06060, McGeorge Toyota shows this as a Dust Cover which does not fit my car while Lakeland Toyota shows this as a Dust Seal which fits my car and a whole bunch of others not listed on McGeorge. On Rockauto, it has ATP RO80 (#9031150029) Left; Trans. code U151E. Checked #9031150029 on McGeorge and Island Auto Group and they showed Right and does not fit my car (Lakeland Toyota lost my confidence as it fits my car and whole bunch of others). I trust Rockauto with parts but this is just nuts. Even ATP's homepage confirmed Drive Axle Seal RO80 is for Toyota part number #9031150029.

Can someone please help me out finding the correct part number for this seal?

Are they using your VIN? This is a long shot but since you know your car, Maybe?

Part Number: 9031150063
Supersession(s): 90311-50063; 9031150053
Thanks for your help sdspeed. I don't think this is the right part since it doesn't fit my vehicle according to McGeorge and Boch Toyota Parts. An alternative that fits my vehicle is 41336-07010 which is a dust cover. According to their diagrams, I don't even know if they're part of the axle (pardon for being such a newbie)...

This is NUTS! That part # was provided by my local Toyota Dealer since I was going there anyway!
That's why I wondered if any of them had used your car's VIN. I came across 3 different seals that were supposed to be specific to your car ( make, model year) etc. The caveat wasn't year, transmissinn i.e Asian or not.
But only the VIN.
Doesn't surprise me unfortunately.

Could be wrong, could be right, best to confirm with multiple sources.

Thank you Vangm25. This part 90080-31068 fits my vehicle but the description is for the Automatic Transmission Oil Pump Seal. Is this what I need?

There are multiple names for the same thing. Oil Seal Type T, transmission seal, oil bump seal, it is likely it but I cannot confirm it. If you Google the part number you will seal a big old oil seal that looks like the Oil Seal Type T. Sometimes you gotta take chances or keep on looking. Compare, compare, compare, compare.

BTW, I actually did check on Rockauto the same link you provided. Cross referenced those that have Toyota parts numbers (see below) on other dealer parts sites and even looked into parts recommended for my vehicle and result is back to square one....so frustrating.

U250E is the transmission for the 2AZ-FE
U151E I believe is the transmission for the 3MZ-FE (not 1MZ-FE)

I wanna say when I bought my Oil Seal Type T it said it was for the Oil Pump Seal but it worked for the axle seal (or whatever else we want to call it). Just gotta cross-reference everything.

Thanks again Vangm25.

Then the bigger question is how would mechanics at auto repair shops know what seal is the correct seal? Is their system more accurate or are they chancing it?

Both. Depending on who their vendor is, they will most likely have the same info as we have. When I still worked in the shop we would contact Wilde Toyota for our OEM parts with most of our research being these parts websites and (hopefully) good parts guy knowledge. Sometimes you gotta take a chance on parts even if you don't want to but if your vehicle is at the shop it means you have another means of transportation so they have more time to work. That is my old shop, I cannot say the same for others.
My Old Shop Primary Parts Vendors:
  • StoneWheel
  • First Alert (O'Reilly)
  • Wilde Toyota
  • NAPA
  • FireStone (for tires)
  • Anyone else if no one has it

That's one of the harder things to source properly. The guy/gal at the parts desk is likely not a mechanic and may only know enough to conduct a search on the dealer part list. My dealer parts place had a HELL of a time finding the right Oil Seal Type T for my U250E trans. It is one of those parts that just do not show up in the location you would think it would show up. The dealer should take it back if it does not work, especially if you supply the VIN and the part need and they source the wrong one to you. Tell them you need the Oil Seal Type T for the transaxle. The driver side is larger than the passenger side, BTW, so they have different part numbers.

I agree. Which is why I want to research the part myself prior to getting it from the dealer and if they provided the wrong part then I may or may not be able to return it. Prefer to have it right the first time since I don't have a spare car to use...

Those look like a trans axle oil seal. When you remove your axle cv joints there is a rubber seal and behind it is a bearing.

check if you remove the seal it has some ATF. if it is ten it is an axle oil seal.
