There has been something rattling in my door panel for the past couple of days. Today, I took the door panel off and the cover of my JL XR crossover fell to the ground. I noticed a white substance on one of the electrical components, don't know what it is. It's texture was similar to salt and was only on this specific piece. I've takin pictures but forgive me, I couldn't get it show up well because it's on a white piece of the crossover. You can kind of see some of it on the black part of the crossover. I've also attached some pics of the truck at a construction site I found that had some pretty sweet hills to climb. Thanks.

Usually its moisture and other chemicals reacting to each other. I doubt it would be a big deal but if you are worried about it you can clean it off and use some anti corrosive spray on it.

If it's corrosion then why?
moisture and two different metals, just like the crap on a battery terminal !

i didn't see any moisture barrier on the door in those pics?
most come with that plastic on them

SUGGESTION use terminal lugs
look at your wiring on the first pic
look at the bottom wire (inl+) note the strands just sticking out?

and you have wrapped the wire the wrong way if you are not going to use a lug !
( when you tighten it the twisted wire forms a bunch and does not want to go tight)

wrap the same way you tighten the screw ;-D

I didn't install this. I got this installed at a supposed to be high end shop. Hi Fi Buys here in Nashville. I've had quite a few problems since then, one of them being I asked for the crossovers not to go in the doors. Lugs?

ok you have the terminal say inl+ and you loosen the screw
well if you had a terminal lug on the wire crimped on you would put it there and it would make great connection and not get loose or have the wires sticking out ( if long enough possible short)

my opinion... if you payed good money for that i would have a talk with them and ask what they were doing with no lugs and wires wrong way and strands sticking out ! and IF your truck did not have that plastic vapor barrier why they would mount there and get moisture ( or worse if hard core 4 wheeler
but just my opinion.

I plan on replacing the crossovers to behind the rear seat when I get my subs and everything. I'm so tired of driving 30 minutes over to that f*^king store and wait for hours while they fix something. I'm tired of dealing with it! I think I'll just call and bitch and try to get some money back on the install. It was not inexpensive. Now that all the wires are ran and all that I can fix the connections. It was not inexpensive.

The white substance is probably some ceramic that wore off of the resistors. The resistors are the white cube looking things. They will be ok though. No real damage but you should secure the cover and then lock the whole crossover down. Better check the otherside too.

+1 it's prolly just ceramic that rubbed off those resistors. Ether that or glue that was helping hold the cover on and the resistors in place.
