About half of the ECU codes stored on the first & second generation EFI Toyotas don't show a constant blinking check engine light therefore you must pull the ECU codes to see if a fault is registered.

To pull the ECU codes:

All 1980-1995 and including 1995 EFI equipped vehicle allow you to find engine and related faults by pulling the ECU (computer) codes without the need for a handheld OBDII diagnosis scanner, the sites listed below have the fault codes needed to pull the codes and the instructions on how to do it:

Pulling the ECU (EFI computer) codes is the first thing I do to diagnosis a problem thereafter I reset the ECU to see if the same problems show up and if so I then take voltage measurements at each ECU wire both with the engine running and not and compare with the factory service manual, I also close the ignition switch after a cold engine and also after a warm engine and compare the resistance values with the factory service manual. This technique will completely isolate your problem without having to do trial and error and it is the technique I use when repairing tv's, vcr's, home/car audio.

I would simply open the valve cove oil cap and inspect inside with the motor running you will see a light mist of oil spray from the open cap put ur hand just over the cap opening , it should get sprayed lightly with oil..

It wont tell you how much oil pressure but at least you know you have some then..
Could also be the waterpump,,Look for antifreeze drip hole if its leaking your pump is on the way out.. isolate exaclty where the noise is coming from with a chunk of good rubber hose becarefull when doing this .. not to get caught in fan or belts.. It might be as simple as a chunk missing out of a belt..

I even seen a loose bolt on the alternator making a sound like the crank was fuked

I would also check the timing chain my truck had a loud tapping/clicking noise from the front end of the motor and it was my timing chain. I accidently sucked some water into the motor and didn't change the oil and my tensioner went out wich allowed my chain to start to stretch which led to the chain eating away the chain guides which led to the tapping/clicking..haha i would pull the valve cover and check the tension on your chain.

ONE OTHER THING IT COULD BE IS THE CLUTCH FAN BEARING !!
With motor off and battery disconnected grab the fan and pull un and down see if theres play in it from in and out to side to side, spin it by hand maybe its grinding possibly?
anys to me it like above or water pump bearing is crapin out from the prob stated,,
or possibly alt bearing..But considering the age of the motor Dont rule out the timing chain either,,
I had a 76 toyota 2wd truck with a 20r engine that i drove around with the water pump starting dripping and leaking then clanging .. It worked for along time before completely craping out on me..
What a noise to!!! ha Strong lil motor i bought a used water pump that wasnt even the right one it was a for a 22r and made it work by plugging a few extra ports on the pump housing worked for years after..
