Hi,
New to the forum. I am working on a '97 Camry 2.2 liter engine rebuild. I am installing the crankshaft and I noticed that there is apparently nothing to hold the thrust washers in place against either side of the block or the #3 bearing cap. I understand that the oil groove must face out, against the crankshaft, but what has me wondering is what keeps these bearing segments in place against the block or the bearing cap. I notice when I rotate the crank by hand that the thrust bearings spin a little bit with the crank until the tang on the bottom section is stopped by the edge of its groove. I remember when I removed the old ones, they seemed to be held against the block and bearing cap by a film of oil.
Is there a special procedure for installing these?
Thanks,
Bill B
