That part number actually fits 84-87, but there was an old TSB for a long crank condition in which they changed the time switch. In fact, a lot of us older parts guys still use that one. That number is 89462-20050. As for the plug, I don't think that should have ever changed. Are you sure you are looking at the time switch and not the temp switch?

Thanks for the reply.Mine is under the t-stat housing,is brown, and to the left of the green temp sensor, when facing the engine bay.Does 89462-20050 have the round or oval shaped female ending?
I sold a ton of those back in the 80s and 90s and I know for a fact that they are square, I even asked an old time tech who was around back then like me, and he confirmed they were square. Even the water temp sensor was square, but the water temp switch, which is on top of the t stat housing, is round.

When they changed part numbers on that sensor, it had more to do with hard cold start than the plug design.

Now, if you have it out, some of those have part numbers on it. If you do, and it does, shoot it to me and I'll tell you what it is and maybe what it fits just to confirm that you and I are talking about the same thing.

http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Toyo...5937430?pt=Motors_Car_Truck_Parts_Accessories mine has a rounded/oval end similar to this one, perhaps not as wide?Would 89462-200-50 or another one have the rounded corners?
the one in that picture is for camry, corolla, and something else. It isn't for your car. Now let me ask you someting, did you do any modification to the connector that you need a different switch than what was OEM originally?
Gary, didn't modify a thing. The engine was changed from a turbo to a new 22RE before I got it.Can't take off the plug and switch as my hands are shot from pinched nerves in my elbows and a friend will remove it and check for a number next weekend if he has time.Funny,we had the plug off last week but didn't take the switch out as he said the plug was wrong.Foolishly did not check for number.Positive it's a roundish cornered plug.Just sent that e-bay pic as my plug has similar corners. Thanks for your time with a fellow who knows squat...Dave.
Im sorry to hear about your pinched nerves. Now, since we know there was an engine swap, it is possible that that was something that got changed. Once I have the number of the one that is in the vehicle, I'll be able to help you out a bit better. I really don't have an answer since the original and replacement should be a square head. With more information, I can help you more. I promise I won't give up on you.

Let me know when your friend can get that out and we'll go from there.
Gary, looking at the plug an hour ago and it is black at the wiring harness part and the wires feeding into the black plug are as follows, facing the engine..Right wire GREEN w/RED HORIZONTAL STRIPES...left wire is BLACK W/LONG WHITE STRIPE.Can't see any numbers on the top of the brass nut switch,of course they'd be at the bottom,if at all,ha,ha.This is all below the air plenum? and above A/C compressor.Don't know if any of this means anything.,,Dave.
Is there a way you can take a snap shot? The cold start time switch and sensor go into the intake manifold right in front of the t/stat. Now, depending on what your definition of plenum is, it may not even be the time switch you're looking at.
A friend will take some pics this afternoon and send them to me via photobucket,so will see if I can forward to you.
black on left is cold start injector time switch.

It looks about right from what I can tell but I only sold the part and not installed them. If the wire loom is original, you should be okay, but I'd still like to get that part number off the old one just to be sure. When modifications are done, its hard to know what year and such the new 22RE came out of, but what gets me, is that it doesn't look like there was any modification done to the plug that goes to the time switch unless they took the harness from the other engine.
Either the middle of the week or the weekend it'll be checked.A fellow on another forum said he runs a switch off his dash to ground then to the cold start injector itself, eliminating that cold start time switch. If I understood what he posted. Will let you know the part number if any, when it's finally off.
