does anyone have a stock oil cooler for the Gen 3 or at least know a good way to set up an aftermarket one? I know it's an odd request, when i got my engine it didn't have the oil cooler, just a block-off plate there. Now i'm finished rebuilding it and ready to drop it in, but i would like to put the oil cooler back in before i drop it in. I was hoping maybe someone would have a blown Gen 3 and not need the oil cooler. thanks!

Gen 3? are you talking about the Spyder 1zz engine? BTW, I'm from Ewa Beach...
no..i'm talking about the JDM Gen III 3sgte in the 96 -> sw20 mr2's. Gen 2 came to the US, i'm having trouble finding the oil cooler for it. I've subscribed to so many toyota forums and asked the same question, no one has it.

So you're from Ewa? wow..i live in the Village Park area of Kunia, practically Ewa. small world. what also sucks is that i'm the 2nd guy that i know of that has a Gen III in Hawaii..i've heard rumors of a 3rd.

btw, i love how you're sporting the HI flag as your prof pic.

i know dude..there's choke restaurants and stores here now..the only thing that sucks is all my friends live in town and i'm stuck out here 30 mins away from everyone. I used to live on salt lake blvd..and that was perfect. Once i get the engine back in my car i'm definitely moving closer to town.

2nd gen stock cooler? I don't know if it even has one. I had the 5sfe so i don't know exactly what is different between the 2nd and 3rd gen 3sgte. What i do know is that toyota relocated the oil filter to the bottom of the engine beside the oil pan on the gen 3's and put the oil cooler on the block where the filter was on teh 2nd gen. I compared the oil cooler spot on the side of the 3s block to my oil filter spot on the 5sfe and it has been slightly modified. I thought about taking the oil filter assembly off of the 5s and rigging the 3s block with an oil cooler made from my old 5sfe filter assembly and an aftermarket cooler. But i can't get it to fit. The blocks are basically the same, but not close enough to interchange 5s and 3s parts to make something like that. Also, finding an aftermarket oil cooler that is made strictly for the Gen 3 is nearly impossible unless you speak Japanese. And i know you're hapa, so please tell me you're half japanese and speak fluently..that would help out a lot. as far as the ebay ones..yeah, i could do that, but i'd rather just put the stock one back where it belongs and not worry about that friggin home made block-off plate leaking oil and the engine seizing up after putting so much time and money into it. I'd have to worry about that anyway if i put the aftermarket one on, because i'd still have to use the block-off plate..something needs to cover that hole..either a plate or an oil cooler.

Yeah, it's unreal how long it takes to go a few miles there. Way too much traffic for me. Here in Arkansas, we have so much wide open road/highway for opening up the throttle on my '91MR2 T. I love it.
Take a look at the sticky on the opening page of this MR2 forum and look at the on-line manual and check out the oil cooler. On the gen 2's, the cooler is located at the base of the oil filter on the backside of the engine. I'm not really familiar with the 3rd gen 3sgte, but I think they are very close with only subtle differences.
Lets see, My Mom is Hawaiian/Chinese/Filipino and My Dad is Haole(Marine Corps.=German/Irish/Cherokee..Yeah, I'm a Poi Dawg... I would kill for some manapua ,half moon and steamed rice cake right now..
Sorry-don't speak Japanese...

does anyone have a gen III oil cooler i can buy? please..i am in need of one, my block came with a block-off-plate to cover up the spot where the cooler goes. Is it ok to run it like that and install an aftermarket oil cooler? Would i have to remove the oil cooler to run a larger turbo since it is under where the turbo goes? Is that why there is a block off plate there?

hi,

i have a gen3 3sgte oil cooler. I can get you a pic. Are you in Hawaii? Shipping could be pricy. I'd like $70 plus shipping for the part.

Martin
consider it sold, yes i'm in hawaii, shipping shouldn't be that pricey..i don't think it will be more than $15, but coming from canada, i don't know. and yes, can you send me a pic? thanks a lot bro

hey,

got some pics...

I'm sure shipping would be more than $15 from here. It would go by air. Anyways, i can box it up and get an exact quite.

But before i do that, i should let you that i don't use paypal. I only accept money orders from the post office, money gram and western union. If you would be able to go any of those routes, i don't have a problem with getting you an exact shipping quote.

cheers,

Martin

ok man, as soon as you can get that quote let me know, i don't mean to rush you, but my car was marked up today because the city thinks it's an abandoned vehicle since the interior is taken apart and it has no engine, which means now i have to get paint off of my paint now. so i also have to move it before it gets towed. whatever the fastest and most reasonable shipping price is let me know and i'll send it whatever way you want. i'd prefer western union, you can pm me your address. i have a friend in toronto, i can see if she wouldn't mind helping, like i western union her the money and she pays you then mails it. so that way there is a middle-man and both of us feel like we aren't getting screwed. either way..let me know.

PM me your full address and i'll get a quote tommorow after work.

I'm on MR2OC.COM ( user name is "Martin" ) with like a 67 positive feedback so i won't go anywhere anytime soon :)

If you can get your friend to help out here, that's not a problem. Western union would be the fastest.
