I hate to admit it but I have the infamous vibe and shudder after adding the lift. The vibe is most noticeable at around 40 mph and the shudder during deceleration. I already have the carrier drop which helped a little. I don't suspect it's the tires since I've had this problem on my stock ones too. I have a feeling things are going to get worse so I want to resolve these annoying problems. So what are my options?

1) Take it to a driveline shop to diagnose
2) Drop in some 2.5 or 3 degree shims
3) Buy a TW driveshaft (does it work on 2wd tacomas???)
4) Did anyone have any luck simply aligning the stock driveshaft at the carrier bearing?
5) Remove the lift! (just kidding....)

Please help me out! Thanks.

1) No idea. Sounds spendy though.
2) I took mine out. Read what tom woods has to say about angled shims here...

Edit... WOW, ok, SMEbay is a retard! You have a 2wd. I missed that the first time.

2) I took mine out. Read whatTom Woods says about angles here... http://www.4xshaft.com/index.html Click on "Tech Info", then "Geometry 101".
3) This is intended to correct the "shudder" many folks feel when accelerating/decelerating. It helped mine.
4) I did not try this. I have read where some folks have had success, others not.
5) Not even a possibility!

LanNinja, which lift did you install (how did you lift front and rear)? By how much was your front and rear lifted (I assume the front was lifted more for leveling reasons?)?

SMEbay, I don't think that the thread you are referring to covers LanNinja's issue. The noise / feeling thread is about the "humm" that goes away when shifting into 4WD, correct? I think LanNinja has a prerunner and his vibe is likely originating in the rear?

Maybe I'm wrong here, that's just what I think at the moment ....

Haha....ok I see. That other thread was for a noise that goes away when in 4wd. Mine is exactly as sechsgang described.

I have DR coilovers in the front (2.5" of lift) with TC UCAs. For the rear, I have Deaver10 leaf springs which only lifted the rear about 1.5" from stock height. A friend and I installed the lift. Thanks.

I just lifted my truck last night and am happy to say that I don't think I have any sort of a vibe, but I did remember why I hate the u-bolt system that toyota uses. There is entirely too much play in the bottom bracket. If they just used rounded ubolts and top plate with a built in bump stop that would accomplish the same thing. Not sure if this makes a difference or not but do all the ubolts have the same amount of thread coming out the bottom and did you measure to make absolute positive that the axle is still aligned right front to back. The pins in the leaf springs and the holes in the blocks/spring plates are not the same size and there is room for movement. I measured from the spring plate to the end of my overload. Just a few ideas, not sure if it is the cause or not. Also I am not running a carrier bearing drop at all and never even loosened it so it is still exactly where it was before the lift. I am getting it aligned tonight so we will see if I have a shake after this. Might try to play around with the carrier bearing though. Add a washer at a time to lower or raise the bearing until you find the sweet spot. That is what got rid of the shake I had on my '98 taco.

You raise some good points here, asI ditched the Toyota u-bolts for the u-bolt flip kit from Trail-Gear and do not have any of the issues that Ninja has described.

One of the main things I made sure was that the centering pins were aligned exactly the same on both sides. If each pin is off by even 1/8" you will notice vibes

I would start by getting rid of the carrier bearing drop. (That caused a hum for me)
I have had my rear springs apart about 6 time since I did the lift, I have never really paid any attention to how the rear end went back together.

Just bolt it back up and it was all good.

Most time if you have a vibrations at a certain speed it can be traced back to your tires.

To check this? Rotate your tires. Front to rear. If the problem still exist? Then it is being cause by something else.

How is your alignment? Low caster can also be a factor. (Not a cause) But if your caster is low then a slight imbalance in your tire will cause it to shake.

If your Caster is high. It will be more forgiving, and hide the fact that your tires are a bit off balance.

Vibrations because there are so many different types. Is really hard to diagnose what could be the cause, over the forum.

There are a few tricks to compensate for certain flaws. It will just depend one finding the right one for your problem.

Good Luck!

Toku, I've had the vibe at 40mph with my stock tires too after the lift. It feels like the cab is buzzing (kinda freaky). My caster was high at over 3 on my old tires. I had another alignment done after the tires and the shop set the caster to 2.4 and 2.0 (part of the reason why I rub the cab mount). I questioned them about it and asked them to bump up the caster but they did not want to affect the camber which was perfect. I have free lifetime alignments with them so I don't want to pay another shop to do it. I'll just have to convince them.

I guess I'll go ahead and remove the carrier drop to see if that helps. I won't add shims at this point as they appear a waste of time. I will check the u-bolts and possibly loosen them up to reposition the springs on the centering pin.

Anyone know if the TW driveshaft will work on a PreRunner truck? The shudder at deceleration is something else I need to fix.

Ah? O.K. when I installed the carrier bearing drop it also caused a harmonic buzz. Wasn't wheel shakes.
Try removing the carrier drop and see if that makes any difference?

As for the TW shaft you may want to ask PB about it? I think they do make it for your truck, but I'm not 100% sure.

And yeah Don't raise your Caster over 2.4* it will start to have Bump steer if you do.

Good Luck!

Ok I just removed the carrier spacer. Man there sure is a lot of play in the carrier bearing. I lined up the driveshaft as best I could. Is there a better way of lining it up other than just eye balling it? I should have marked the exact location of the carrier brackets before I added the spacers in the first place. Maybe someone can take a pic of theirs on their stock truck....

Are you recommending removing the carrier spacer too and adding in some shims instead?
Yes, but since you only went up 1.5 inches I bet you would be good with 2.5 shims instead of 3, does deaver recommend anything?

how does it drive after taking the spacer out?

How did you measure the pins? From the pin to what? Thanks for the help guys. Off to work now.

Cj, I'll let you know after work. I don't expect it to be better but you never know. Also check the thread on the ubolts and found that 1 bolt on each side was off by 1/4" compared to the rest.
