I got a new 2017 XLE two weeks ago. I noticed that when I accelerate from 20 - 45, the car goes to very high rpm's (3,800 to 4,200). My old 2015 would go to a max of 3,500 and that was if I was floorring it. We brought it to the dealer who said it is a brand new transmission and they will have someone from toyota HQ come take a look at it. They called me now saying, that this is the way the car is designed to be. Does anyone else have a 2017 sienna that can try it and let me know?

Thank you

That is a good idea about going to a different dealership to try it.

I took it to a transmission place and he said that it doesnt seem right. Toyotas response is that this is a new transmission that is designed to handle this way and it is normal for it to do that

My question is do you have ECT ON or OFF? At the time that I did my test drive, the transmission would shift aggressively and the engine would rev high when in ECT was ON. When I turned the ECT OFF, the vehicle ran much better.

ECT (OFF or ON) is buried in the menus of the little 4.2 inch display next to the speedometer.

Good luck!

Ive had a 2016 Sienna XLE, now I own a 2017 Sienna limited.
My 2017 does the same thing and I believe its due to the new 8 speed transmission... It definitely drives and feels strange first couple of days (not sure if just got used or the transmission "broke in" ) but now we love it... running at 1k RPMs at 45mph (where most of the driving is done) kind of make sense. The gears are shorter than the previous year model (6speed)and that's why she is revving harder in 1st and 2nd gear.
Also it takes time to get used to the fact that she drops a gear or two as soon as you touch the accelerator pedal....

Overall- we love it.

I can see how they could achieve 25-27 mpg with this transmission and the extra 2 gears lol

4000 rpm doesn't sound like a very high number if you are stepping on it. You can't compare one vehicle to another if they are not identical.

I agree with this. How can you ask someone to try the same to duplicate your issue? If I'm at 25 and floor it to 45 mph, I'll get higher revs than if I take 15 seconds to go from 25 to 45. I'm sure you're not flooring it, but you'll of course get different revs depending on how aggressive you are. Tough for others to compare for you.

I have 4 automatic vehicles. Every one of them will hit 5 grand on the tach if I accelerate with aggression. Some people just can't seem to handle not being able to find a problem.
