I am looking into getting new brakes and had a few questions before I jumped out there and started buying stuff up.

I have a '91 MR2 NA that was swapped to a turbo. Therefore I have NA brakes and such.

I want to upgrade to the 93+ brakes and don't know if there are any problems I will run into. I should be getting rims within the next few weeks so I don't have to worry about the 14's hitting the calipers.

My main concerns were this:

- Are the 93+ Turbo brakes going to go directly on?
- Is there any difference (mounting wise) in the turbo and non-turbo brakes?
- How much should I look at paying for either the entire setup?

Anyone know a good place to pickup some of these??? I've found all kinds of places with rotors and pads... but no calipers.

note: i DID NOT write this i merely copied it from this address: http://www.mr2.com/TEXT/93_BrakeUpgrade.html because i wasn't sure if you need a username to access it.

for what it's worth, i got a quote of about $800 from a Toyota dealer in Seattle 4 years ago for everything needed to do the conversion.
hope this helps ...

Not really. The most difficult part is to get the Bearings out, they are
pressed, and press the new ones in, have to have the right tools to do properly.

Also an allignment has to be done at the end.

Installing the new disks requires no special balancing, you have to mark if
you remove and re-install the old ones. I checked the new disks on a machine
and they are perfectly balanced.

The part no's are to 1995 catalog.

just tried the link myself, i guess you don't need a username to access it.

by the way, i've heard that you can simply remove the '91-'92 dust shields instead of buying the '93+ ones ...

Bitchin... thanks. Anyone know anywhere besides Toyota that carries them? I know partznet.com carries the pads and rotors... but I'd like to get them all from one place. I'd rather not use toyota though.

EDIT:

I'm assuming these are the calipers??

3. Cylinder assy rear disk brake
47730-17130 rh x1
47750-17130 lh x1

4. Cylinder assy front disk brake
47730-17140 rh x1
47750-17140 lh x1

well, you're still in the lower 48 ... so i would suggest pricing the calipers at a local dealer, then try giving Newark Toyota a call (in Newark, Delaware - that's where i buy my parts) and see how much difference there is in price. besides, i think they also offer core refunds - although i don't know how it would work with the parts not being exactly the same. i just bought a stock caliper from them because my right front locked up on me ... it was $170 and i think they said they would have given me $40 back for the old one. can't really remember though ...

TOYOTA WANTS $500 PER CALIPER. That is insane.... just thought i'd share that.

It's not about the bearings... it's about the two piston calipers.... that the '91 NA doesn't have. Anyways.... I may as well go with a big brake kit if I'm going to spend $500 per caliper. Sooo.... I'm just going with new NA brakes again.

93+ Turbos have twin piston calipers. I believe that the NA brakes never changed though.

also 93+ rotors are bigger than 91s.....so i find it hard to believe that all the part numbers are the same.....

^ Ya... that another thing... you have to have a 15"+ rim to fit them.
