My 8 day old Carmy 2012 SE got hit in the parking lot today.

The guy left a note is said he's willing pay to fix it.

Still annoyed though.

I took a look at the damage and its only the bumper thankfully.

Should I just get it repainted or a whole new piece? Never dealt with an all plastic bumper.

I'll post better pictures in a bit.

EDIT:
here are more images since the first one wasn't all that clear

I would guess that it'll just need repair vs replace.

On a side note, my 6 month old Volvo had its entire rear door crushed in, at a mall parking lot, with no note left. Sickening. I know how you felt. Dont worry, it'll all get worked out, just a real pain and bummer.

I'm just worried about the repainting processes, especially on plastic? Will it bond well?

My last car ('07 accord) was keyed from the headlight to the gas tank. I got it repainted and the paint has been chipping off already >=(

first off i would avoid taking it to mom and pops shop...i would suggest toyota dealerships body shop or maybe a true2form or wilburn over a lower name shop to avoid the problem you had with it flaking no matter where you take it make sure the shop has a warranty for there work and no painting on plastic is not a big deal as long as all the proper promoters and adhesives are added in the paint which if you take it to a bigger name shop to get it fixed they will not have any problem where as the mom and pop shops kind of take short cuts yet it may be cheaper but for me its quality first and i cant tell from the picture but if there is any damage on the quarter panel just a light scuff from what i see as long as there is no dent i would ask them if they could buff it out because i would rather buff a scratch out than have to have your whole quarter panel cleared then you run the risk of getting orange peel and just not the same factory look...and since its a brand new car i would try and see if it can be replaced..but i paint cars for a living at a toyota dealership so thats just my advice if you need any other suggestions or help please PM me!
Andy

edit: also look over your rim really good and make sure there is no scuffs or scrapes on it those always get over looked...

Thanks for the info Andy.

The two toyota dealerships near me.

Elmore Toyota and Toyota of Huntington Beach do not have body shops. They refer their customers to off site body shops. When I went to Elmore's they reffered me back to the body shop that worked on my '07 accord. Basically gave them back their flyer and left.

No damage on the quarter panel luckly just the bumper.

This guy is paying for the damages, so should i just look to replace the bumper?

Toyota dealership body shops are no better than any other quality body shop (no magic parts or magic "Toyota" paint"). In fact, dealer shops generally do pretty mediocre repair work. Do a little homework and find out who does the best work in town. Take it to them for their recommendation. If it needs a cover, they will know.

You'll be happier in the long run.

Be thankful he was honest enough to leave his personal info.

Mine was struck in a parking lot and they did leave a note but all it said was "Im soooo sorry I hit your car!"

Yeah, Im sure if I show the note to a body shop they will fix it for free. The bimbo did $1000 in damages!

Pretty sure it was a woman cause the writing was feminine and I did see a blonde bimbo enter the store when I was in line looking around then immediately leave. Just left the worthless note in case someone saw the hit & run and calls the cops.

Just to show how attractive your car is to them. LOL

Things like this that makes me want to drive a super old vehicle.

Anyway, same rule apply for all other fix incident. Get at least 3 quotes, do the average and have that person pay up.

My two week old Camry SE was hit in the same place. but it was a hit and run! The guy kept going:
Same here, only it was about a month in for me, but also a hit and run. Outside of a restaurant. I noticed it the next morning. It was more on the "corner" in my case and appeared to be a metal bumper. There are 4-5 DEEP grooves. Into the plastic. No paint transfer.
