Hey guys I just bought my girl a 1998 Camry 2.2l automati with 177k for $1950 car runs great and zero problems, little normal wear and tear but A/c ice cold and everything works I'm really happy.

I have a few new comers question. I am not new to forums but I am to Carmys.

Stock what can I expect in MPG averaging 45-60 Mph?
Also with a new tune up and a intake and exhuast what can I expect? Will these mods change a lot? I know all car are different and wondering what it would do for a Camry.

Any intake / Exhaust mod will make a difference.. (if it is suited to the car)

they should improve your fuel usage (as long as u ain't up it more :p) and give u more HP

Normally u find that u will also end up with a noticeable amount more in the lower RPM band (1500-2000RPM)

Another good cheap mod that makes a difference is a strut bar..

Like this one

I have one of those on my car (more flat through the corners)

Also a set of 17" rims with some wide tyres help alot 2

personally i have 235/45/17" on my camry with no rubbing issues..

Best of luck with your mods..

Enjoy :)

You should see 30 mpg regularly... possibly a touch more.

The mods you mention will only make more noise. They won't make much difference in performance or fuel economy.

It has a belt. The recommended change interval is 90k miles. So if it was done on schedule the first time, it is coming due again. Good idea to replace a few other things at the same time... water pump, idlers, and such.

it's a timing belt system, and its a non interference engine so should the belt ever break you have virtually zero chance of the engine being torn up. also intake and exhaust work will help your fuel mileage a touch, especially if you look into properly porting, flowing, polishing, and gasket matching the intake(throttle body, intake manifold, intake ports on the head) and the exhaust ( header and exhaust ports on the head) as well as increasing the diameter of the intake for higher flow and increasing the diameter of the exhaust about a 1/4 inch for better exhaust flow. these can be done affordably if you're up to doing your homework and doing the work yourself.

Thank you I'll looking into it. Also do the Camry have any tuning programs? What ecu do they use to tune theses cars?
You're guess is as good as mine. The only programmers I have found for the 4cyl camry are the lame fuel map changing plugins, which i guess might be good for a small amount of power but you'd want to change spark advance too among other things to gain power. The best option I have seen is mailing the ecu to jet performance to have it reprogrammed but it could take a while to get it back. I remembered seeing their dyno charts on the before and after of a stock 4cyl camry before and after flashing and it was a gain of around 14 horses, which would be more if you had existing modifications they could take into account I'm sure.
