Yes. Cover your squirrel spotters.
is there a easier way to cover them up rather than taking the head lights off and putting a piece of a soda can+JB weld?
maybe folding the flap down and covering the edges with JB weld?

planning to get HIDs next week and want to find a easy way out cause im a noob when it comes to workin on cars

sorry for going off topic, it might help the OP too

These are squirrel spotters.

You need to bend down the flap inside the halogen projectors to cover them. There should be a DIY around these forums.

Actually, thats not all there is to it. You also need to literally "cover" them with something, whether it be JB weld or with a piece of aluminum. Bending the flap alone won't give you a clean cutoff.

Not too sure. I haven't personally had to deal with it 'cause I've never installed HIDs into housings that weren't designed for them, so other than knowing what squirrel spotters are, how they work, and how to get rid of them, I couldn't give you any real details. Maybe someone else on here has done it.

In the mean time you can just bend down the flaps, until you can cover them with something. I was lucky enough to have long enough fingers that I was able to just reach in there and push them down with one of my fingers.

anyone know a professional installer that I could take it to in the greater toronto area to correct the issue....thanks in advance....
Why would you do that? All you need is about 2 minutes of your time to fold down the squirrel spotters. It's a good idea to cover them up with something else, but I only have mine folded down which drastically reduces the glare (some is still there), but I never get flashed by oncoming traffic, and because my car is lowered it helps a bit as well.

All you need to do is use your finger or something like a pencil to fold them down.

for the thread starter, there's a stickied thread with full on 6 pages or something about this issue.

can someone post a picture of their light against a wall without the jb weld and only pushing the metal flap down.. i'm curious to see how much the jb weld really blocks, otherwise i'm just going to push it down for the mean time.

^This link should help you out. http://www.toyotanation.com/forum/search.php

But if the JB Weld is applied correctly, there will be no light about the cutoff. In other words, the squirrel spotters will cease to exist. lol.

EDIT: My advice is push it down if you don't have JB Weld readily available but use the JB Weld as soon as possible. Don't keep a half-ass job when JB Weld only costs about $5 at the store.

Once you go to HID, you will not want to go back to halogen. Not saying halogen is horrible but HID is just so much better. If you absolutely had to go back to halogen, I don't think the squirrel spotters absense would be that dramatic. They are more like increased visibility for street signs.

were halogen squirrel spotters really that effective in lighting up street signs?

i'm still afraid i might go back to halogens and left without squirrel spotters.
The squirrel spotters don't light up the road, what they are meant to do is cause reflection in street signs and other reflective equipment, so it's easier to see.

It should, as I said earlier I never got around to using any KB Weld or something similar to cover up the few holes I missed. The cutoff is fairly clean, and I lowered the headlight angle a bit downward, which helped. So now I never get flashed by anyone.
