TORRANCE, Calif. — Lexus said its redesigned LS luxury sedan, set to hit showrooms in late 2006, will make its official debut on January 8 at the Detroit auto show.

In effect, the car made a debut of sorts at this fall's Tokyo auto show when Lexus pulled the covers off the Lexus LF-Sh, or Lexus flagship sedan concept car. The nomenclature on the new fourth-generation flagship is expected to be LS 460, but Lexus has not yet confirmed that.

The concept featured all-wheel drive and Lexus described the power unit as a gas V8 with an electric motor. The concept is about 1.5 inches longer and wider than the current LS 430.

In a statement on Thursday, the company only hinted at what to expect in Detroit, saying, "The LS will set impressive new standards in design, styling, engineering, safety and performance."

What this means to you: When the wraps come off the Lexus LS in January, we'll get a clear idea of the design direction of Toyota's upscale brand.

i like the rear tailights of the regular LF-S better than the LF-Sh, but its still very nice.

And that you (I) probably can't afford it.:D

wonder what they have to offer considering the techno overload on mercedes
Perhaps the LS will be able to stop without having to drive over a wooden plank ;)

I love this design and hope it will not be changed much to the production version. Just sad I can't afford one :D

lane departure warning system?
power side sunshades cause you can't be bothered to raise/lower it yourself :D à la 760i

Are LEDs bright enough to be headlights or are they still working on it? Maybe use LEDs as DRLs

Interior ambiance lighting like the Mark X with the cool blue lighting strip on the ceiling

Offer Alcantara option?

One thing I don't want is something similar to iDrive. God that thing's awful. I wasn't driving and I still had problems navigating it  . I find my Prius touchscreen much easier, thank you. If they must have that kind of system, have a separate one for audio/climate and leave the car/seat/security/performance etc settings with those menus and submenus.

Lexus has been able to stay away from the whole iDrive thingy on the GS and IS so we can only hope.
i doubt it, their vehicles are always easy to operate so dont expect idrive like system
How about a car that doesn't require frequent towing...like the Mercedes.
I doubt lexus will go the i-Drive route. In multiple luxury car comparos the lexus was praised for being operable without consulting the owner's manual.

I believe they are still working on the LED headlight thing. Just not bright enough yet. A couple of years and I bet they'll have gotten it.
I like the Mark X's blue lighting strip, but in that price range I would also like a sunroof.:D

and some have manuals just for the navi, just as thick if not thicker than the owners manual.
