I am planning to get a new Streo system that plays MP3/CD to replace the existing casette player for Camry 97. I am thinking of going to Best Buy for purchase/installation, being a newbee I can't do it myself. Anyone has any suggestions on this? I am not sure which brand I should go for. I want it to fit properly in the slot, I really hate to see it protruding, like I have seen it in some other cars. Also should I replace the speakers for better ones? I have been thinking about it for some time, but only now I am motivated enough to get it done next week.
Appreciate any suggestions.
Thanks

it's gonna be an iso mount, so your gonna need a harness and a universal pocket. Any cd player you pick is gonna stick out a little (the face plate). Yes, you should replace your speakers cause stock ones are ehh... I like Alpine the best, then pioneer and kenwood. The motorized faces may cause you trouble in a long run, cause the motor messes up or something, so i would get one where you press a button to open it. Also if you want something respectable, I would stay away from dual brands. Not saying they're bad or anything but looks and price of them can decieve you. well that's my 2 cents

I agree about the Dual brand, I just bought one monday(from bestbuy too) and it was one of the two highest priced there. Well when I got it installed it wouldn't pick up FM stations and the sound was majorly fucked. So I took it back and got a Sony, much better IMO.

And for the install, I would say try to install the head unit atleast yourself. I had never done anything with audio before and it took me about an hour, including research, and theres a great link floating around here giving extremely detailed instructions for Camry's. I can find it if you decide to do it yourself.

Here you go!!!!

Just be carefull when pulling this plastic pice of the dash, it's really easy to brake. I suggest you get a help of a friend to pry it out with a flathead screwdriver while you are pulling it out.
Plus harness from your stock deck is no use for a new one, just leave it in there. The one you need is in right top corner, there is 2 white harnesses, just plug them in an aftermarket harness. And i suggest you use 6mm screws to mount your deck, makes it harder to steal :)

Overall it's an easy install!!!!!
