I think this has been a problem for people using the factory JBL subwoofer system with aftermarket stereos because the aftermarket stereo 12v won't activate factory JBL amp. This is my first post, and I'm picking up my new 08 Silver Double Cab 4x4 tomorrow, so be nice if others have already seen this.

Here's the burp from SoundDomain, click on the link to see the installation video and an explanation from Scosche

Video: Radio Install in a 2004+ Premium Sound Toyota

If you have premium or JBL sound in your 2004+ Toyota, then you've probably been told replacing your radio is more expensive or complicated than a standard Toyota. And if you haven't, well, now you know. The amount of in-car gadgets controlled by computers increases every year, and now even your car stereo is part of the data network. The factory amplifier in new Toyota vehicles is actually turned on via a data signal rather than a standard 12-volt signal. Until recently there was no easy solution for adding a radio to the car other than bypassing the factory amp and rewiring the factory speakers directly to your new radio. Thankfully Scosche has developed a solution for these complex systems, and now swapping a new radio is straightforward and simple. Just check out the video below!

Nice find especially for those with the JBL sound system but that video confuses me more than anything.

I know it's only for demonstration purposes but if you already have the factory NAV head unit (Eclipse/Fujitsu Tein) on the new Tundra, why would you want to replace it with something else?

The Tacoma JBL radio is not as desirable as that Tundra Nav unit. But the install would still work the same way in the Tacoma.

On 05+ Tacomas just pop off the A/C control panel, and then remove the 4 bolts that hold the radio. Then just pull the radio out.

Weird.

I just ordered this adapter about 5 minutes ago. I'll let everyone know what I think as soon as I get it (about a week).

I had this adapter and to be honest, I was dissapointed with the quality. After only three months, my audio started cutting in and out. I would get in my truck to go to work and I would have no audio. Then I would get back in about four hours later to go to lunch, and I would have audo. I figured it could be one of two things; factory JBL amp was going bad or the harness was defective. I pulled the harness out, and the little green indicator light would keep flashing. I then replaced it with an axxess amp integrarion harness made by metra, and all my problems were solved. All in all, a bad experience with Scocshe.

I installed the scosche Sat. It sounds good so far, but on my Alpine 9886, I can't control the stock JBL sub level through the radio's sub level function. I'm thinking this is normal for the scosche. I was checking out the Axxess TYTO-01, and in the pics, it seems to have the same connections as the scosche which are:

(4) RCA to the back of the stereo (Front and rear speakers)
Blue - Amp remote
Red - Acc
Yellow - Constant
Black - Ground

It looks to me like the Axxess wires up the same way. Can you actually control amp level (Not overall bass level) with this adapter? If so how does it wire up?

Quick question...I'm trying to get some better sound quality from my JBL sound system by upgrading the headunit to an aftermarket Pioneer or Alpine headunit. If I use either the Scosche OR the Metra adaptors, will this decrease the sound quality of the system, or does it make no difference?

Also, correct me if I'm wrong, by changing the stock headunit to a better one I will get better sound quality? Or am I misunderstanding the other threads?

Thanks!

I have the Alpine 9886 with the Scosche adapter. Everything else is stock, and my system sounds a lot better. The sound quality is a vast improvement, the highs are more crisp but not distorted and the speakers seem to handle more low end.

That being said, there are so many chaotic variables in attaining sound quality and improving SNR that each HU is going to be different, but I think any QUALITY aftermarket HU would improve your system.

You cannot control the amp level from the aftermarket deck. Prior to the install the instructions state you should turn the stock stereo up to volume level 35. I imagine this is to set the amp to the ideal level for most applications. If you want a little bit more, you could pull the deck, hook the stocker temporarily back up and crank the volume up a bit. Just a thought.

I have the factory JBL sound system in my '05 Tacoma and after everything I have read I think I am going to try out the Metra Axxess TYTO-01 and see what happens. After trying this for awhile and saving up some money I am going to redo my whole entire sound system. Wiring and all.....wish me luck
