New Tacoma Owner with 2 Questions

Just bought a 09 Tacoma Access Cab/V6/Automatic. Never had a V6 before and just curious how tough these engines are? Meaning...i like to drive ALOT - can a toyota truck handle a lot of driving without wearing out the engine?

Also - I wanted to engage the 4WD so I turned it on, drove a few miles then turned it off and I heard a noise underneath when I turned it off. Is this normal? It was just a small "thunk" noise right when I turned off the 4WD.

These engine's are fine as a DD, just change the oil and your good. The "thunk" is normal its just the 4wd locking and unlocking.

the clunk is when you have the wheels are binding... you should really almost not hear a thing...

cheers
Warts
Jared.
Thanks....I didn't know if something was wrong or not. Never had 4WD so it's a new "sound". How well do these Tacoma's do in Snow and Ice with the 4WD?

They do pretty good, you shouldn't have any trouble in your 09 with VSC. But most of how good they do depends on the driver, and a decent set of tires :D. I'm so glad my crappy trails are gone!
Hossier.....what tires would you recommend? I got the ones that came with it but i'm open to options.....

I do hear, that toyota trucks can go hundreds of thousands of miles if maintained......

BFG AT's have always served me well, but your tire requirements depend on what kind of surface you spend the most time on. A couple other good tires to check out are Bridgestone Dueler AT REVO's and Nitto Terra Grapplers.
CherryCoke......can it easily go over 200K?

If you keep a truck for 10 or 15 years, i can see it going way over....
I second the 200,000 +
If you care for the truck it will never let you down...Unless you try to go to third base on the first date.

If I can get an 80's ford ranger to last 250K miles, and still tickin like a champ, I'm positive this thing would DOUBLE that :)
Toyota designs their engines to last ~300k miles...the body on the truck should go long before the engine does if it is properly maintained.
i'm sitting at 120k right now on my 06 still running strong, *knock on wood*
definantly a the 1-GR is a great motor just make sure you keep the engine oil changed. I have 131K on my 05 pre-runner acess cab V6 6sp manual and still running great i love my truck wouldnt trade it in for anything.
