Hey guys im somewhat new to mr2s.
Im currently looking to buy a 91-95 mr2 (2nd gen?) and i was wondering if there was anything to lookout for good/problem areas.
Also im not sure what to get, the Turbo or N/A. do they both get the same MPG? Base uses regular while the Turbo uses premium?
What differences are betweent the 91 and 94+ N/A engines?

im pretty much looking for a car thats:
reliable/good for canyon and touge driving
gas MPG (college student)
moonroof(perfer) or T Top
power steering/windows etc
ABS is a plus though i see MR2s w/ abs are hard to find.
AC/HEAT
+working windshield wiper/wiper fluid nozzles (haha my previous car didnt have any..driving visiblie was a PITA. during rain)

If you are planing to have the MR2 as your daily vehicle, forget about it. Since you are a student, I assume you have a tight budget. MR2 can be very costly if you don't know how to get your hands dirty.

definitly costly... especially if you wreck it... but they are fun if you are willing to pay the price though then look long and hard at the front right it is usually damaged there. also the gas milage is better in the na and its still fast look for leaking heater lines and any oil leakes ask when the timing belt was last replaced see if the headlights are propped up or not (almost sure sign of front end damage) thats all i can think of now...

can you be a bit more specific on how costly mr2s can get? i pretty much have my mind set on one. the 2nd choice being an Integra though a loong stretch of differnces
about the timing belt as in any other car its a must to have replaced but how much more different is changing the timing belt on a MR car?

you could get one for 2,500 or you could spend 16,000 just depends on what you want and how much work you wanna put into it.

to me it really seems like you should be looking into a Non turbo mr2. They will be alot more reliable and will give better gas mileage and alittle less worries. Like any 12 year old car it will have its things to fix such as alternator, suspension, ect. But other than that its a great car. Thats my opinion on it. There are plenty of people that drive these cars every day without any problem or at least minimal. Its like any other car just keep up on maintenance

x2, it's way cheaper to repair/replace a 5sfe rather than a 3sgte.

If you're on a budget, then TheEngineers' advice is the way to go. The N/A still has the great looks, handling, good mileage, dependability and are fun to drive.
