Mississauga, Ontario - Nissan Canada has announced that its new 2009 GT-R sports car will go on sale in July at certified Nissan GT-R dealers with a base price of $81,900.

One model will be offered in Canada, in a choice of six colours, and will include an eleven-speaker customized Bose Audio system, standard navigation system and Z-rated performance tires.

The GT-R features an all-new, hand-built VR-series 3.8-litre twin-turbo V6 engine, producing an estimated 480 horsepower and 430 lb-ft of torque, with all-wheel drive and an all-new six-speed dual-clutch transmission. Its lap time of 7 minutes, 38 seconds around the Nurburgring Nordschleife is one of the fastest achieved by a production-spec vehicle to date.

Will there only be the GTR? Wonder if they will have a GTS version...

Our time driving the GT-R was brief but intoxicating. The car was just as awesomely quick around Costa Mesa as it was during our exclusive first test of a GT-R in Japan back in December. But it's an amazingly easygoing car with a transmission that's simply brilliant whether it's allowed to shift by itself or the driver is using the steering wheel paddles to trigger the gearchanges. It's also ridiculously comfortable, maybe a bit too quiet, and the brakes could stop a runaway Pentagon budget.

In short, now we want one — or two or three — more than ever!

$82k base model, that's good value for money

Not at the moment, and not likely. The closest thing to a GTS would be the Infiniti G37 coupe.
The price between the GTS or G37, and the GT-R is a huge leap compared to previous generations.

Very true, but then again the new GT-R is a "whole lot of car" compared to the G37 :D I'm willing to guess that there won't be a Nissan GT-S, but rest assure that there'll be some aftermarket tuners (such as MINES or Amuse) who'll modify a GT-R to make their own GT-S by taking away the ATTESA AWD system. Give it time and we shall see

Just upgrade the G37.

The G37 is using the GT-R engine without twin turbos.

I saw a modded white R32 Skyline GT-R as I drove home tonight.... I'll admit I'm like a kid at a candy store everytime I see one of those things drive by. Can't imaging how I'd react if I see the new Godzilla drive by.
