so i decided on going aftermarket for my headunit. I used to have a scion double DIN unit in there and it worked perfectly, but i had bezel issues. made a custom one from fiberglass but it just never worked well.

My main needs in the stereo are (in no particular order) either MP3 playback or auxilary jack/iPod jack, satelite radio compatability, and non-tacky look.

can you guys post up pictures of your headunits installed? most aftermarket stuff looks so tacky and colorful, i was wondering if someone out there has found one that isn't all "lok at me!"

thanks.

Not able to take a pic so will have to see if I have one somewhere. I personally love my panasonic HU. It's not a huge ass lightshow everytime I use it, main display face is blue, and when driving at night I'm able to turn it off.

I have a DEH-P 5500MP from my old 93 camry. The color scheme goes very well with the 93 gauges and it accepts mp3/wma discs. Here are some pics:

In my opinion the best looking head units are the expensive sound quality decks with little features.

McIntosh MX406

Nakamichi MB-X

Pioneer DEH-P800PRS

I doubt this will help you as not many people are willing to spend this much on a HU with little features, but the 800PRS isn't bad feature wise, and has more options to tune the sound than almost any other unit on the market.

I liked the Kenwood DNX 7120 that I recently bought. Looks good, and I also cut the gearshift trim with wall mount stereo plugs and a wall mount usb plug so it looks factory.

I took this with my cell phone to show someone.

McIntosh quality is seriously above all else. My buddy has a full system in his car from McIntosh... and even though it cost him an arm and a leg, the quality is outstanding.

however, I can't forward a grand for just a headunit. Nakamichi is interesting, but if anything, that Pioneer got me interested a lot.

I was actually looking for a double din application, btw.

Then I think that uibalnme hit the nail on the head, unless you want dvd playback + satnav. Then your are going to be spending close to $1k anyway for something good.

Yeah, you gotta love this thing!

I just can't afford it right now. :disappoin

I like Pioneer. I have bought nothing but pioneer in all my cars. But what the hell is with the Piano Black w/ Blue LEDs....EVERYWHERE???? What stock interior from the past 25 years does that match?

I had to settle for one with Blue lighting finally last time for my 95 camry - I wish I would have waited for the new 3100UB.
