so i have a non turbo 1989 supra, and i was wondering if i could just throw in a stock turbo, an intercooler, and a boost controller, if it would mess up my car, and i would not be racing it all the time, just for those moments

NA-T on a 7M isn't very cost effective.
I'd highly recommend just getting a JDM 7M-GTE and buying a wiring harness, ECU, fuel pump, intercooler, etc and just doing a proper swap.

Or better yet, save up more and just do a 1JZ-GTE or 2JZ-GTE swap, the 1JZ-GTE came native in the MK3 Supra in Japan and the swap is now very well documented. By the time you add up the costs of properly refreshing a 7M-GTE and swapping it in, its not very far off of a 1JZ's cost.

Better still, would be to just sell that Supra and start hunting around for a factory turbo car in good shape. Spending $5-6k on a truly clean MK3 will more than pay for itself in the end.

agreed. i did an NA->T conversion for someone, and it sucked.

disagree. i'd just stick with the 7m. way easier to get parts, .5 liter more displacement than the 1j, and for the cost of buying a 1jz you can do a full overhaul on the 7m. even stock internals are good for 400+ rwhp. gotta think of this guy's goals. ;) 2jz= expensive 1jz= expensive

There's as many opinions on the JZ vs 7M debate as there are assholes with a screenname, but I've 'been there, done that' with 7M's as much as I care to and between issues with machine shops and constant random headaches that seem to plague my fate with 7M's, I'm firmly siding with the JZ camp.
Though I am really impressed with Jeeves' car, now if only it'd quit leaking ;)

Pfft. Leaking is only the half of it ;-) I think the heater core went out again, my carpet was wet the other night. Might explain my air replacing my coolant issues.
