how's it going. I changed my distributor, rotor and plug wires yesterday and while doing so i noticed what appears to be motor oil around the rim of the distributor cap, and I noticed oil in inside the rim of where the distributor caps attaches. Any idea where this can be coming from?

the dizzy has a couple oil seals on it since it gears right to the exhaust camshaft inside the head. if you pull the dizzy out you'll see theres an o-ring on the shaft of the dizzy. it could be as simple as replacing that, a pretty quick job. i'll take some pics of a spare dizzy when i get home from work for you.

if it's the external seal that you mentioned it'll just run down the block onto the exhaust manifold. if it's in the cap and around the edges, it's leaking through the internal seal which is a non-serviceable part unfortunately.
