Hi,
I'm new here obviously, I have a 96 Avalon (built in 95) that has OBD I instead of II. I have an intermittent check engine light, and whenever I try to get a shop to pull the code, it always goes off like 10 minutes before I get there. I know on my old GM OBD I vehicle you could just jump 2 ports with a paper clip and pull the code from the car that way. Is there any trick I could do to the Avalon to pull the code? Also, can someone help me with reference files to the code meanings? thanks.

Pins TE1 and E1. The CEL will flash any stored codes.

Your Avalon should be OBD-II... Check for the OBD-II connector under your steering column.

Are you sure that it is OBD I? I was under the impression that the Avalons started out as OBD II cars, but I haven't done much research on the older Avalons.
