I am trying to purchase a 2017 Highlander Limited and am having a difficult time trying to find one with the OEM Blu-Ray installed in it. The dealer tried to get me to accept an aftermarket unit that they had installed but I would not take it. Does anyone know if it is installed at the factory or at the port (Jacksonville ,F ) ? I found one listed on a 2017 Limited FWD but I'm buying the AWD if I can find one equipped as I want it . Is it possible to special order one exactly equipped as I want it? The Toyota accessory item emblem is PYAT.

In 2014 had same problem getting Limited with 9" OEM Blu ray. Had to wait awhile for dealer to find the one I wanted. As for aftermarket if they are getting the car from the port they can order it with 10" DVD installed. It's my understanding there are No aftermarket Blu ray players only DVDs. My son is buying a Sequoia from the dealers inventory and they are having a local custom shop install a 10" DVD the only draw back for me would be they are using a FM module to get the sound over the stereo system. The OEM Blu ray is nicely integrated into the cars stereo system. Of course they also come with two wireless head phones. Your dealer uses South East Toyota and they have a website you can check out their inventory and options. Good luck finding what you want. https://southeast.buyatoyota.com/

Thanks for the info about your purchase . I finally decided on a 2017 Limited AWD in Blizzard White with the black interior ;my options was the blu-ray player ,tow hitch and body side molding . It is scheduled to come in on 02/03/2017 and all options to be installed at port . The dealer tried to sell me an in-stock SE in the same color scheme and install the three options and I was tempted and I would have saved some money but the few upgrades plus having only the options that I really wanted is worth it to me . Plus not having to buy several options that I would not want is more than worth the wait. Also it was hard to find one without the bench second row seat ( I wanted the captains chairs) but I searched the incoming Limiteds in the pipeline and took a list of vin numbers to the dealer and he found one and was able to get it from the assigned dealer . When I spend $40000 + for a vehicle I make sure that it is equipped exactly as I want it so I don't mind the wait ! Looking forward to getting it.

Update on 2017 Highlander . It arrived on time but had a port installed DVD player that did not have the Blu-Ray feature . It is listed as a Southeast Toyota accessary on the window sticker and sells for 949.00 instead of 1810.00 . It is wired to the aux of the stereo and can be played over the stereo speakers but although the picture is ok the remote is cheap looking and the unit is not integrated through the JBL system like the factory system . I had been waiting two months so I accepted it but was not satisfied with the service that I received . It seems as though Toyota makes it very difficult to get options like this although they are listed in their brochures . It was never mentioned that a factory order was required and I cannot understand why the port or the dealer cannot install the Blu-Ray unit ; it cannot be that difficult . When I called Toyota CS that said to ask your dealer etc.not much help from either. Does anyone know how to get the complete Blu-Ray unit in a kit including the wiring harness so that I could replace the port unit or who to contact ?

If you plan to keep the car more than 2-3,4 years, you are better off with an aftermarket unit. We use one on longer trips and sits right on the center console. ther are mounts for headrests that put the screen center, and I think if you for some reason are a heavy user/ bad habit creator for your kids, then that would be an option.
But even an ipad or tablet with downloaded content works better than any OEM unit. The OEM are usually cheap and limited in what they offer....But do offer a "turn key" solution, with penalties.

I think your problem is with SET and not Toyota. Southeast Toyota is like Gulf States - they are independent and can do what they want.

They played the old bait and switch game, knowing that after 2 months you were eager to get your new HL and gambled you would take it. If they had ordered your HL from Toyota with the OEM unit, they wouldn't make the profit on it! SET and GST load on their own aftermarket accessories and options which generates a lot of money for them and not Toyota.

I think Phil's advice is the best. You'll have more flexibility, and automakers can't keep up with new and changing technology, anyway.

EDIT: Thank you for following up and posting your outcome with SET. Your post may help a lot of other folks in the future!

Thanks for the info on SET and the DVD units. However ,I had already sealed the deal pricewise so when the Highlander came in with extra options ( door and handle cup protection , Toyotaguard , and Blizzard White (I had ordered Shoreline Blue ) so I did not have to pay for those options . SET no longer install tow hitches so the dealer ordered and installed the OEM unit and it looks great just like OEM should. Then after some discussion I was refunded the 900.00 difference between the DVD units so even though options are only worth about 1/3 of the selling price (if that) it helped the bottom line .
Although I am enjoying the Highlander , I still wished that my original order had been filled and there is no reason that it should not have been . There will always be some regret in my mind about this and that doesn't bode well for customer satisfaction and future purchases .
