Please list below what TSB and Recalls that have so far been reported(In detail) for the 2014 Highlander. If there is a link or image of the report, it would be great to include it.

I hope we can make this a sticky and can add to it in a easy to find list with minimal repeats and such.(Hope it stays slim!)

sweeneyp:

Please keep this on topic by only posting TSB's learned about and recalls. This is NOT a thread to discuss the problem, only give a systematic list of the TSB's/recalls as they are discovered.

So again please, no discussion.

I brought it in and it took a little over an hour for a software update, not sure why it takes so long though. On the phone they told me that the job is listed as 1.5hrs.

Rather than a thread on this why don't we just have the mod create a read me in the top section with the necessary links for all to see. Here's the link to the NHTSA website for recalls/TSB's and complaints. Somebody else can post the one for the Toyota website and we should be pretty well informed with those.

UPDATE....

Long story/short. Hadn't rec'd (yet) toyo. notice about this potential issue, but my vin# showed. Dealer svc. said bring it in. Appt. this a.m. At first told didn't know what to do. Finally (2 free double espressos later lol!) Mgr. got it clarified & apparently I was 1st one to be inspected, hence initial confusion with SA. So...

1..Smart tech update n/a on mine. 2.. Pic. is part inspected on mine. My part had no # & apparently means its ok & no further action required at this time. But, if 1 or 2 on part apparently means its not ok. If so, sounds like it'll get parked right there & suppose to get loaner car? This issue so new, no info. at this time if part needed, how long to get?Anyhow, just how it went for me.

2-21-15 CD software update and Entune TSB 2015 Ltd

While on a 2,000 mile trip I noticed the CD player would become scratchy and skip around. I noted that on the service trip and they did a software update "EL1318".

They also did a "T-SB0160-14 Entune Audio Head Unit Software Update (Panasonic)"

I heard the news about the recall so headed out to nhtsa.gov to check out any other issues brewing....

Courtesy Link to 15 HL Complaints

I see a complaint about a water leak. I thought I saw a few drops come inside dripping toward the left front corner of the drivers seat. I thought it was from water making inside as i had the door open. Now I am not so sure. Time for more testing. Anyone else that has seen anything please speak up.

I am surprised there is not more discussion here. Maybe the thread title could be modded to include reference to the recall of risk of loss of power steering assist.

I am bummed we have a recall so soon. Recalls are a way of life and this seems relatively minor, but still its not what i wanted to hear as a first time Toyo owner.

Toyota is currently preparing the remedy for this condition. Once preparations are complete, Toyota will send an owner notification letter by first class mail to owners of vehicles covered by this Safety Recall.

Cars.com says April: https://www.cars.com/articles/recall-alert-2014-2015-toyota-rav4-2015-camry-and-highlander-1420678430191/

Our Highlander's steering appears to be fine so far. The car's first service is due ~May 7, so that'll be a chance for me to ask the dealer's service department.

HTH,
Jim / crewzer
Our steering seems fine too. According to the article the letters go out in April. Hope the dealer has the required parts in time for your service appointment.

^ Letters going out don't relate to when they have a fix. For instance, there's a safety recall on the Tacoma that went out in Sept. In Nov, we got a second letter reminding us of the recall and that Toyota is still working on a fix. It's almost April, and they still don't have a fix. So don't get your hopes up that replacement parts/fix will be available at the time of notification.

Toyota is addressing dealer stock initially, and will then deal with owner vehicles. I recently saw two HL's sitting off to the side at one dealer's lot with a handwritten sign taped to inside of windshield. It read "STOP SALE". Took me a day or so to figure out these were dealer stock recall cars. There is a TSB (among other documents) linked to the NHTSA site under the specific recall number. Basically shows how to teardown lower steering column trim enough to see if the steering column numeric identifiers fall within the range of suspect columns and EPS ECU's. Winners (losers really) are pulled from dealer stock awaiting a yet to be determined fix. We 2015 owners won't be addressed till last. The whole scene sucks arse, but I cannot say I'm surprised. I'll see if I can link the TSB to this thread later tonight. I'm currently posting from my lowly S3 with a data limit.

It will be interesting to see if the finalized repair procedures for affected vehicles will include a re-calibration of the steering angle sensor that directly attaches to the clockspring/SRS coil.

If the replacement and reflash of EPS ECU requires the disconect/reconnect (i.e., R&R) of the steering angle sensor, the steering angle sensor must be re-calibrated via TIS or the vehicle steering will be severely affected, to the point that steering will not properly correct to center after a left or right turn. Honda requires the same re-calibration of their steering angle sensor using HDS (Honda Diagnostic System). I'm really hoping that I dodge this bullet once I let the dealer determine whether or not my vehicle is affected. I have so little trust in most dealer service departments. I could easily see the tech skip over critical repair procedures to make up for how little time Toyota will pay them for the job based on internal time/hour rates, assuming he even knows what he's doing to begin with.

I've actually considered refusing the recall, but refusing a safety related recall leaves the customer with zero rights (and even liability exposure) in the event of a future EPS component failure or failure-related accident/ fatality.

Anyway, I'm done talking to myself for now.
