Hello, i have a 2005 corolla 1,4 d4d with 77 000 km on it.

Today i was using my tow hock to tow a small empty trailer (about 200 kg)

i haven't used the tow hock for a year and it was rusty and difficult to mount ( i can take off the hock)

i sprayed it with wd-40, both the hole and the electrical plugs.


After driving about 30 mins three lights suddenly appears:

1: the traction control

2: the esp

3: abs

4: electrical falult in engine.

The car drives like normal, but when i start the car with my foot on the brake there is a sound, like a spring that suddenly "springs" and there is a small "tap" in the brake pedal


i haven't had the time to disconnect the battery yet, but i have restarted the car several times, but the lights come back on.

One of my friends stated that he always got warning lights when towing whit his brand new volvo, but they disappeared after disconnecting the trailer....

what to do? where should i start?

now i have tried to disconnect the negative pole on the battery for 30 mins, but the lights still come on

This definitely sounds like something is wrong with the ABS. When you start the car it goes through a self-check. The spring feeling is likely a problem and the lights come on because there is an issue. Usually if there is any one issue all the lights will come on.

thanks for the reply, i have checked the fuses, but haven't found any blown ones. i think ill have to see my toyota dealer and have them sort this out. I'm afraid it will be expensive...

when i read other treads with similar problems/warning lights one of the solutions has been to check/change the brake light switch. How can i check this and where is it located ?

I have tried to find the brake light switch on the pedal but can't find it. there isn't one. i guess its located on the mail brake cylinder?

my brakeLIGHTS ARE NOT WORKING.....

now the lights are working. found a broken fuse.

but the engine light is still on...
