For many years I and most others here have heard about condensation
build up in engines. Is that more related to frequent use of the car or
does it make a difference if the car just sets. ??

Moisture is in air , moisture could build up if motor is driven short
trips in winter and never warms fully , like 5 minute trips. Running a
motor for longer periods minimum 15 starts to get added moisture out of
it. Letting something sit has alot of negative effects on everything,
Drive it.

That's true. Once repeated short runs have occured enough,..the moisture
build-up inside the engine will turn to steam the first time the car goes on
a decent run. As this steam rises to the cam-cover, it condenses on the
cooler metal forming a sludge with any oil upthere. If the car does a long
trip,,the water vapour (steam) will escape thru the PCV system as the
cam-cover is up to full temp.

If there isa slow coolant leak from the headgasket for example or you live
in a high rain area (with high humidity), the whole process will be more
vigorous with a lot of watery-sludge forming in the over-head gear.

Thats why short trip winter driving oil change intervals are recommended
to be made short, it ruins oil in a few thousand miles, and your motor.
You go to buy an old car and the owner states its changed every 3000,
but its trashed with sludge from short trips.
