Anyone try removing the cartridge filter without draining the center plug?
How much oil does the metal housing hold?
My driveway is gravel, and my drain pan is plenty big to avoid making a huge mess.
Tool recommendations for removing the filter housing would be great.
I'm aware of the 65 - 67 mm wrench from the Avalon thread, but I'd prefer a perfectly sized tool-if there is one.

I've changed the oil on my RX.Same cannister and filter.Haven't done the Camry yet.
Holds about a half a qt.I didn't use the drain center plug.A bit messy but not too bad,IMO.
I'd rather have a spin on filter. The cannister thing sucks.
Here's the wrench piece I use.

The wrench is the same on all the Toyota's that take a cannister, regardless if its a camry, avalon, tundra, rx, es, so forth. I have had a lot of people try to find one out in the market with little success. Believe me, my Techs here at my Toyota Store have tried Snap-ON, Mac, Matco, Cornwell, etc, all of them. So if you have, I applaud you. The Toyota special service tool number is 09228-06500-02 and fits perfectly. In my opinion it is an overpriced tool for what you get, but it does fit perfect unlike others I have seen.

Good luck to you all.

Yes, it is overpriced, but it works perfect, so I am happy with mine.
