Have a '96 4 cyl T100 manual 5spd. Trying to take her down to the timing chain and have the manual. Everything is off and have removed the support between the tires (cross member) and all bolts. Oil pan is loose and manual says to wiggle it out. HA! No wiggle room (very little). Manual wrong! :headbang:

What does a hard working boy have to do to remove the darn oil pan?

FSM says remove 16 bolts and 2 nuts. Insert the blade of SST between the cylinder block and oil pan, cut off applied sealer and remove the oil pan.
SST 09032−00100
NOTICE:
Be careful not to damage the oil pan flanges of the oil pan
and cylinder block.

Maybe some of the sealant is holding it in place. Try tapping it with a mallet, maybe some prying to break the sealant loose.

Have freed the oil pan already. I'm referring to the clearance under the truck. Steering and other stuff don't allow clearance. Have read in 4x4 posts about dropping the steering down some... Will try that today and hopefully will accomplish my goal today. Will try posting photos if this site will allow. My truck is down to the cab and block only. Everything else has been removed for the restore.

oh I see.

your's is 2wd?

When I took the oil pan of the my friends 3.0 V6 4wd. I had to drop down the front differential. Then I removed the idler arm, three 17mm bolts and the steering stabilizer. This made enough space to pull the oil pan out.

Not 100% sure how different the 2wd 4 cyl is.

You might have to unbolt the motor mounts and lift the engine up some... ;)

When my 1996 T-100 4 cylinder 2WD gits back later tonight, I'll take a peek under there and see what seem viable. Have you searched the internet fer any solutions? ;)

Thanks guys. Got under there this am and looked around... Decided to shoot some photos and video under the truck and then make a decision and work on the truck tomorrow. I did notice the motor mounts and it seems to be the most appropriate selection without unbolting the steering. I will probably do that and lift the motor up with a floor jack. I'm still unsure of exactly why I need to completely remove the oil pan. My 4 cylinder's timing chain/gear and such does not seem to have anything to do with the oil pan. The timing chain/gear cover has bolts that affix the oil pan to in but otherwise, I am unsure why the oil pan is REQUIRED to be removed?

Removed motor mount bolts and lifted engine. Not enough clearance to take out oil pan. Don't waste your time doing this if you're thinking of it. Will unbolt steering assembly now. :headbang:

Kind of funny now really.
