Hell all,

As my 09 S approaches 50k miles (48k currently), I've began to wonder if a bottle of injector cleaner around each oil change would be worthwhile.

In the past I've only used the stuff on older vehicles when I suspected there might be an issue developing. What are your opinions on using a bottle of Techron or similar right before each oil change (6 months or 5k miles)?

Just curious if I should be doing this as part of my normal maintenance. Thanks in advance for any insight!

If you are using a good brand named fueling station that has high traffic, you are getting pretty good fuel that already has cleaners right out of the pump. If you are really intent on using them, I would choose a longer interval, like 10-20,000 miles and choose Techron, (not z-max or other TV-hype induced brands)

I religiously use Redline SL-1 or Pennzoil concentrated fuel injector cleaner at every oil change.

Your Corolla is still new so I wouldn't worry about it too much, but on an older car like mine (13 years) it makes a noticeable difference.

EVery 15K or so, I would recommend putting in Toyota's EFI tank Additive part#00289-EFI00. When doing so, make sure you have a half tank of gas and you use it up in 7 days or less. It is very powerful stuff and cleans out carbon on injectors like you wouldn't believe.

I once had a vehicle that had bad carbon build up, I put this stuff in at a 1/4 tank and burned up that tank on the way home on the freeway. By the time that tank was gone, the injectors were cleaned up tremendously. On a normal new car, I don't advocate doing that, this was a bad isolated case, but demonstrates how powerful and potent this stuff is.

I also don't advocate over doing any kind of injecter cleaners. Use them wisely and sparingly.

Why would you have to use it up within 7 days or less?

Is it bad to just let it sit for longer than that?
