My brothers car had a check engine light, so we took the car to autozone to pull the codes, there was a P0401 code,
What does that code mean and how do I fix it? Thanks

I'm going to tell you how to fix it without reading 100 post.
First crank the engine , pull off the vacuum hose on the EGR valve. Stick a spare vacuum hose on the EGR valve. and suck on it to see if the engine dies or stumbles. If it does, then you know the EGR valve is good and the port is not clogged. Now, the next step is to replace the modulator valve (this is the valve that feeds the vacuum to the EGR valve.) and it has 3 ports on it and 1 on the bottom. Then replace the electric vacuum valve that is located on the back side of the engine near the oil pressure switch. it is held in place with 1 bolt and has 1 electrical connector plus 2 vacuum hoses. This will correct your 401 code problem.
