Hello,

I have a 1998 Camry LE. The front passenger inside door handle and plastic housing broke. I purchased a new one and used this video to replace it:

However, the door now doesn't open from the inside. If I unlock it with the auto-lock or flip the plastic lock manually, I can open it from the outside.

The rod that connects from the plastic handle seems to still be attached to the opening mechanism (nothing seems severed, etc.), but I can't look all the way in to where it connects because it goes further inside the door.

Can someone give me direction on how to fix it? Please let me know what other info you may need.

Thanks!

I have done this but not recently. Is there a guide clip in between the latch and the inside handle that stiffens and guides the rod? If so be sure it is firmly seated in that clip, perhaps with a slight application of vaseline to make it slide easily.

But I could be thinking of the Chevy truck that I did more recently.
And search YouTube for videos of this problem, as you apparently already did. .

Another video.

With my replacement handle, there was some plastic casting flash that hindered smooth movement. I trimmed all that with a sharp knife.
Your photos look fine but is it possible that the rods are reversed on the new handle. And does the door open if the rod is pulled with the handle removed?

Thanks for your response. The rods were in the correct place.

I had a mechanic fix the problem. He said the rod or parts that connect to the locking mechanism were bent or stretched. He bent it back into place.
