Got a manual 3.4l 4x4 that has had a pop out in first issue since my girlfriend bought it. It'll slip out of first when not accelerating and the rpms get under 2000 or so, especially on a bumpy road, or when accelerating from a stop. Initially we tried the quick and easy fix with the lever seat. This didn't solve it. Recently, we decided to have the transmission rebuilt and clutch replaced. Same day we picked up the truck it started popping out again so we brought it back. Mechanic said it must be the shifting fork and replaced that. However this did not solve the issue either. What gives? Is this mechanic missing something or does this generation of Tacoma's not like to stay in first through the low rpm?

Sounds like that mechanic has a problem not too.
R150 ?
And no they don't tend to have issues.

It's a 98. Unsure of which transmission, assuming that's what an r150 is.

Yup it has a R150F 5 speed.
Same as my T100, pretty bullet proof tranny not prone to problems.

I just don't understand how it could still have the same issue after a rebuild, new clutch, new tuning fork. At this point whats the cause?
