Power Antenna Troubleshoot

1870 Views 5 Replies 4 Participants Last post by  joshpao
I have a 1996 Camry LE 4 dr. The OEM power antenna works fine with the ignition turned to on. Once the car is started and running the power antenna will not work. If you turn the engine off and leave the key on it will work again fine. I installed a new mast but the problem still happens. The car has the factory radio and antenna and no wires have ever been messed with. Thanks with any help with this.

Are you stating the antenna motor only works with the engine off and ignition on?
That is correct. If the engine is running it won't work at all. If the key is turned on it will work fine. I don't have a clue. Loosing ground maybe?
what the?

only turns on with the key in on position.......

did you access the connections for the antenna yet?

thats wried.. i dont know.. maybe a short somewhere..
Might be a bad ground or other wiring issue. Does the cig lighter, dome light, wipers and blinkers work with the engine on/off? What type of radio do you have, OEM or JBL, remote amp or built-in? How about the wipers and blinkers.
In my case, i replaced the power antenna with a new unit. I bolt in, plugging in procedure but the unit will not operate.

I installed the new unit, attached the two grounds, plugged in the power connectors and the antenna lead. I have checked the ground connections by jumping directly to - battery terminal. Checked a few other things but assume I haven't.
