Question: does rain affect the pre collisions system.
My mother has a 2018 corolla. She was driving in heavy rain. All of a sudden an orange triangle with an exclamation point in it started flashing. Then the warning light for pre collision system off came on. It said something about camera not available. After 10 minutes all lights went away. Now that it stopped raining the lights are not on any more. The car drives fine.
So I wanted to know does rain effect the pre collision system. Thanks.

does rain effect the pre collision system.
Yes. The manual has a long list of conditions where the system won't work, including heavy rain, after which " the warning light will turn off, the message will disappear and the system will become operational when normal operating conditions return". The camera needs a perfectly clear view. Those systems sure may help in some situations but still are limited.

Which one needs the clear view for pre collision system to work.
Both. The camera needs a clear view to distinct and interpret objects, cars, pedestrians, painted lines on the road, etc. (which is why in winter country, it often struggles…). Rain, dirt, snow, fog, condensation on windshield may render those hard to identify vs what's anticipated. The radar needs a clear line to emit and receive back radar signals. Dirt, ice, a crack in the logo and it too is compromised. Plus the radar works straight ahead so isn’t of much help if a car cut you in diagonal, in a curve, or behind a vehicle with really high ground clearance.
