Just happened the other day. I was going up a steep incline to a stop sign. (4x4 Auto OR 06') made a complete stop and then released my brake. i know that the truck would roll backwards due to the steep incline and knowone was behind me. as i rolled maybe 1.5 feet, the truck applied what sounded like the Downhill assit kicking in, and would not allow me to roll backwards anymore. I hit the gas and away we go. Purty cool stuff....

sounds like hill start assist. didnt think it was supposed to be on unless you hit the button.
No button. My auto does it too. It is a function of the auto in certain circumstances.

Are you thinking of the Downhill Assist Control? That does have a button.

Quite a few auto's have this feature nowadays and I'm surprised it took 1.5 feet to kick in. It's called Anti-Rollback and on an auto it prevents the vehicle from rolling backwards while in drive. My old Explorer had it too and I could easily and safely let go of the brakes completely on an incline without the vehicle moving backwards even an inch. I've tried to do that same thing in my taco but usually when I let go of the brake it wants to keep climbing there is so much power :) I've never been stopped on a hill steep enough yet to test the anti-rollback on this truck.

Sounds like something that was on every auto I've ever driven. None of them ever rolled back like a manual if you don't juggle clutch, brake, and gas right. I mean hell, you're supposed to take your foot off the brake to apply the gas to go. Would be kinda stupid (not to mention DANGEROUS) if the car or truck started rolling backwards as soon as you let off the brake.
