Seeing how many Topics there are on Head Gasket failures I figured I would put my two cents in the hat.....I bought my first Subaru in the fall of 1981 and being a maintaince nut on all my vehicles, have always changed my antifreeze mixed with distilled water every other year. I have never had a gasket failure on any of my Subaru's, Toyota's or any of my Chevy's. When I bought our 2010 Forester knowing the 2004 Legacy's had H.G. failures I asked the service manager if they would stand behind my wifes 04 Legacy if I ever have an issue and he said yes especially, knowing you change your antifreeze. He feels different engine materials promote corrision in the antifreeze which weaken the gaskets and eventually they fail.
