Well, today when the car started, it made this screeching noise, then when we turned the car off, it still had a screeching noise. Then after, we drove the car to Midas..and the car started smoking from under the hood. What is wrong with the car?

That's not much information to go on. What did the smoke smell like, oil or burning rubber? If its burning rubber, you may have a slipping belt. If its oil or something else, someone's gotta look under the hood. I can only speculate at this point.
It was still screeching after you turned the car off! Or did it screech when you restarted it? Sounds like a belt unless it was screeching with the engine off!

Out on a limb, but maybe the idler pulley seized?
was it a screeching or more of a screech/grind?

and as everybody else is also asking, was it still screeching when the car was of???

and what kind of smoke/burning smell was it? plastic? metal? oil?
It smelt like rubber, in my opinion.

Yes the screeching noise was still going when the car was turned off, with the keys out of the ignition.
MMM sounds like a radiator fan, its the only thing i can think of that will still be moving when the engine is off, if its dying then theres a chance it will smoke, get that checked out :)
When they looked at it today, well they did it very quickly, couldn't find what was wrong. Got to wait for tomorrow, maybe I should ask them to check if its the radiator?

Nope, the electric radiator fan. It's suppose to cool down the car. Like the other person said, it is the only part of the engine that wouldl be running, even after you turn the car off. If that fan is broken, it may also explain why your car was smoking.
The starter didn't stay engaged by any chance did it? How long did it make the noise for after the car was turned off?

Gary
^ that's what I was thinking as well, that's why I asked if there was a metal-like screeching sound, possibly the starter was still engaged on the flexwheel

and maybe it's a bad relay to the fan that keeps it going afterwards?

but then why would it smoke during driving? interesting...
It didn't start smoking till we parked in front of Midas, I'm not sure, since it kept making the screeching noise, we turned the car on again.
So ghostwatcher, what did the problem turn out to be ultimately?
